Stephanie McDowell and Ross Ballantyne

22nd July 2016

Venue | Seamill Hydro, West Kilbride
Photography | Mike Cook Photography

“Seamill Hydro was the setting for our entire day. We loved the backdrop of the beach, the food was delicious and the staff were amazing. Having our photos taken on the beach as the sun was setting was one of my favourite parts of the day.

More than anything, we wanted our wedding to be like a big party. Our aim was to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. For our favours, we had individual Krispy Kreme doughnuts and miniature bottles of Jägermeister. Instead of picking names for our tables in advance, we put chalkboards on each one and let the guests pick their own name. Between that and a magic selfie mirror, everyone was kept entertained!

The Vinyls played at our reception. They are the best wedding band ever! Every single person told me how brilliant they were and our dancefloor was packed from start to finish.

Our daughter Ellie was almost two at the time and she was our flower girl. She got a bit of stage fright when she was walking down the aisle and burst into tears and wouldn’t move. Ross had to run down and pick her up and hold her at the top of the aisle. It was so lovely to walk down the aisle towards them both. Our ceremony was really personal because Ross’ aunt, Gillian Wilson, is a registrar and we’d asked her to marry us.

Our biggest bargain was our photographer. We snapped up a package where our album was included in the price, and an early payment offer which saved us a lot of money. As a bridal makeup artist I’ve worked with plenty of photographers in my time and I’ve always loved the photos of my brides taken by Mike Cook.

I wouldn’t change a thing about my wedding – it was everything we wanted and more. The only thing I wish I’d known is how quickly it passes. I would have planned a full weekend celebration if I’d been allowed!”

Top tip: “Do what makes you happy. It’s not about everyone else or what they think – it’s a celebration of you spending your life together. And lastly, enjoy every minute as it whizzes by so fast!”
