These creative Scottish wedding suppliers jumped at the chance to collaborate at a secluded woodland spot in Perthshire. The alternative styling and rainbow-hued flowers will make all your garden wedding dreams come true
Since launching in 2015, wedding co-ordinator and stylist Scarlett & Bell has made a name for itself as the go-to planner when it comes to modern, romantic weddings in Scotland. Owner Mercedes Somerville has a knack for bringing her couples’ stories to life through her creative vision and has forged relationships with some of the best suppliers in the biz.
Weddings may have been curtailed last year, but Mercedes was still dreaming big. “A small number of my fellow wedding professionals and I decided to find a way to flex our creative muscles and inject fresh colour into what had been a trying few months,” she says.
After enlisting Edinburgh-based photographer Lianne Mackay, next in line was florist Adelaide’s Secret Garden, which grows its own flowers in Perthshire. “Adelaide told me she had access to a secret woodland spot in the area that was carpeted with candelabra primulas. These flowers, in turn, provided the inspiration for the styling of the shoot,” says Mercedes.
The flowers’ intense colouring gave Mercedes “1970s nostalgic-glam feels” but rather than serve a wistful homage to the decade, she balanced the look with cleaner, more modern details such as typography-led stationery by Edinburgh’s Aura Studio and cool glassware and crockery from Anthropologie and Oliver Bonas. “We supplemented these with some pieces from our own stashes,” she adds.
Self-styled Edinburgh ‘confectionary artist’ Butter and Bodoni provided a minimalist cake, topped off with its signature stunning sugar flowers, while bespoke bridal specialist Rowanjoy Bridal provided the dresses. “Rowan is great at blending retro elements with modern shapes and fabrics. Her dresses’ exquisite textures and colours worked almost too perfectly with the backdrop,” laughs Mercedes.
“Our lovely model, Fiona, was a member of staff at a local venue who kindly volunteered and – like so many Covid brides – she did her own hair and makeup,” she adds.
“The resulting photoshoot was the joyful burst of colour we all needed, something that proclaimed ‘do what makes you happy’.”
We couldn’t agree more, Mercedes. Scroll on to see it in all its rainbow glory…
