With the Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker wedding documentary joining Disney+ recently, we’re revisiting the biggest details from their wedding days. The reality TV star and the Blink-182 drummer had not one…but three (!) wedding celebrations including a lavish ceremony in Italy in May 2022.
In true Kardashian style, the events made a splash on social media as well as an impact on upcoming wedding trends, with online searches for Italian weddings, gothic wedding dresses and sequel weddings on the rise ever since.
Travis’ proposal to Kourtney
Before the weddings there was Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s proposal which also caused a stir on social media in October 2021, with many fans surprised at the news of their engagement as photos and videos of their beach proposal spread online. Travis got down on one knee in Montecito, California on the beach surrounded by roses and candles.
Proposal trends for 2023
It’s not just weddings that have been impacted by Kourtney and Travis’ love story. The romantic proposal has prompted lots of search online and #s on Insta around proposal ideas.
Their impressive backdrop of roses also kicked off a trend, with videos on TikTok including ‘rose petals’ gaining over 85.8 million views in October, according to Hitched.co.uk.
Where did they get married?
Their most recent and biggest wedding ceremony took place in Portofino, Italy, at Dolce & Gabbana’s L’Olivetta villa, before they enjoyed a reception at historic castle Castello Brown.
Before this, they eloped in Las Vegas in April 2022 but they weren’t legally married at this ceremony. However, the following month they made things official at a courthouse ceremony in Santa Barbara.
Sequel weddings in 2023
If planning one wedding day seems like a lot of work, three separate events sounds like three times the stress! But following several celebs recently staging sequel weddings, including Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas as well as Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber, wedding experts at Hitched say this will become a trend in 2023.
Sequel weddings often spread the celebrations over multiple days, such as an intimate event with close family and friends on one day then a bigger reception party with more guests at another time.
Zoe Burke from Hitched says: “There are lots of reasons couples choose to host sequel weddings, for example, having a small church or registry office wedding followed by a much larger party on a different day at your chosen venue.
“What we’re seeing as a rising trend following the pandemic, is more couples choosing to host a small legal wedding with just a handful of guests, and then a much bigger ‘sequel wedding’ planned for another time.”
Destination weddings in 2023
Weddings abroad could also be on the rise, with more and more people looking into destination weddings, Italian weddings and elopements following Kravis’ big ceremony.
While there are loads of gorgeous places to get married in Scotland, the thought of tying the knot in the Italian sunshine is certainly appealing!
What did Kourtney wear to her wedding?
With three weddings comes three different wedding dresses (as well as a few other outfit changes), and Kourtney’s Italian wedding outfit definitely got people talking. She wore a Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda dress, but it was her long hand-embroidered veil that really caught peoples’ eye.
The lace design features the Virgin Mary, with the words ‘family loyalty respect’ underneath surrounded by lots of flowers, and was inspired by one of Travis’ tattoos as well as their Catholic upbringings.
She paired the dress and veil with fingerless tulle gloves and white lace heels.
Wedding dress trends for 2023
Since seeing what Kourt wore, searches for ‘wedding veil’ on Google and ‘gothic wedding dress’ on Pinterest skyrocketed with lots of recommendations for how to get her bridal look.
She also opted for a less traditional short wedding dress which also seems to be gaining popularity, as Made In Chelsea star Sophie Habboo wore a short style from Vivienne Westwood in her recent wedding to Jamie Laing.

You can watch their wedding celebrations in the ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Kourtney & Travis documentary. It dropped on Disney+ in the UK on 13th April, and you can find it under Season 2 of The Kardashians.
The style of the documentary is different from the usual Kardashian TV style, as Kourt and Travis chose to keep the production crew out of things, instead opting for videos from family, friends and their own videographers.
Commenting on the documentary in an Instagram post, Kourtney said: ‘As someone who has struggled with filming at times (as I’m sure you know), I am so grateful for the opportunity to create such a beautiful documentary that means so much to us.
‘The experience of being trusted in taking the creative lead and immersing myself in the process is one I’ll always remember. I hope those of you who watch, have some laughs, some tears and may you enjoy.’
