On the hunt for an alternative, quirky wedding venue in Edinburgh? Dovecot Studios is an exclusive-use space in the Old Town that functions as one of Scotland’s only operating tapestry studios and it’s opening its doors to allow couples to scope it out
“Dovecot Studios is a unique and inspiring wedding venue for those looking for something a bit different,” introduces the venue’s Claire McHardy. By day, this atmospheric former Victorian bathhouse is one of the only operating tapestry studios in Scotland, but on select dates in the calendar, it’s ready to be transformed into a unique exclusive hire space, with a maximum of twelve events held on the Weaving Floor each year.
The Weaving Floor is the most sought-after and exclusive of Dovecot’s spaces, due to its stunning vaulted ceiling and colourful wool spool wall displays. It also happens to be a brilliant blank canvas on which you can imprint your wedding aesthetic.
“The incredible historic building may serve as your inspiration to help you decorate to your taste,” continues Claire. “In fact, at our open day, a selection of handpicked suppliers will be on hand to discuss and help you realise your wedding dreams.”
Aside from the Weaving Floor, there is a wide variety of spaces to accommodate weddings, including the Viewing Balcony and more intimate rooms such as The Meeting Room and Ladies’ Baths – and all will be able to view on the open day.
Feeling nervous about getting back to open days post-lockdown? Don’t be: Dovecot has it covered. “The Wedding Open Day will have various safety measures in place including timed entry, a one-way system, sanitising stations, and the use of face-coverings,” Claire assures.
Entry is free, but time slots must be booked in advance here.
