It’s no secret that shopping for the ’maids can be the stuff of nightmares (a quick browse of any w-day forum is all the proof you need), so whenever a new directional brand launches, we get excited. Sister is Halfpenny London’s first, fashion-led foray into producing frocks for the squad, all with designer Kate’s signature easy-breezy, cool-girl stamp.
“I love the word ‘sister’,” she reflects. “It could mean family, but could also mean your best friend or wing woman. Speaking as someone who had a huge number of bridesmaids at my wedding, I know from experience that dressing a group of fabulous, diverse women in a way where they feel amazing, yet look like a cohesive party, is a challenge! Luckily, that’s what myself and my team do every single day.
“Each bride who walks through our door is completely unique and our differences should be celebrated. I wanted to carry my mission statement of ‘being the bride you want to be’ through to the wedding party, by creating an edit of ultra-flattering, interchangeable pieces, designed to be worn on the wedding day, but then incorporated into your wardrobe afterwards to wear again and again.”
Given our focus on sustainability, this is cracking news for anyone who doesn’t want to be saddled afterwards with a weird, super formal gown forever and ever (you were all haunted by Katherine Heigl’s stash in 27 Dresses too, right?).
Imagine kitting the gang out in clothes they would actually reach for in future. Wrap dresses; flowing jumpsuits; tiered skirts: it’s all very wearable. We’ll be rocking ours in Tesco. See you in the frozen aisle.
