“We decided straight away that we wanted a summer wedding. When we arrived at Broxmouth Park, we instantly knew it was the one for us. Although it’s a very grand country house, it has a really intimate feel and is a comfortable and relaxed place to be. That’s exactly how we wanted our guests to feel.

Our main idea was to create a traditional and relaxed summer wedding. We brought the outside in to the marquee with gorgeous flowers that matched the pale pink colour of the bridesmaid dresses by Planet Flowers.

The wedding service by Reverend Macrae at the stunning St Mary’s Parish Church in Haddington was simply wonderful. Although it is a grand old church, with the longest aisle in Scotland, it felt intimate. It was a wonderful feeling walking up the aisle with my dad, seeing all the smiling and happy faces of our friends and families and meeting Dave at the altar.

One of our biggest highlights was the speeches: they were incredible, absolutely hilarious and totally and utterly heartfelt. My father Peter’s speech was amazing and so genuine; David did himself so proud and spoke from the heart; and Iain, the best man, had everyone in stitches.

What made the day even more special was that our close family and friends stayed overnight at Broxmouth Park. We carried on the party the next day with an afternoon barbecue at David’s parents’ house, which was the perfect way to end a perfect weekend.

We wouldn’t change anything about our wedding. It really was a fairytale from start to finish. One guest commented that she had been to lots and lots of weddings but had never felt such happiness in the air before. That meant a lot to us both.

Top tip: Our advice would be to try to enjoy the whole thing from start to finish. It’s the most special time in your lives together, so share and enjoy it with your loved ones!”
