“We chose a humanist wedding ceremony and picked a venue we could put our personal touch on. We wanted something relaxed and casual and a big open space to bring our favourite ideas to life, so Coo Cathedral was perfect.
Our celebrant was Janet Donnelly. She made our ceremony so special. I couldn’t fault her at all – she had commitment and amazing attention to detail.
The vibe behind our wedding was vintage and rustic. We had lots of handmade items and we picked suppliers who could add items that co-ordinated with our style. We personalised lots of things – confetti cones, ice-cream wafers and the order of service, among other finishing touches.
When it came to shopping for the dress, I quickly found my style and tried on a number of gowns in two different shops over two days. But I kept going back to the one I eventually bought, which was a Lillian West gown from Emma Roy of Edinburgh.
I run my own cake business, Heavenly Cakes by Andrea, so I created my own three-tier wedding cake. It was in keeping with our vintage/rustic theme and embellished with a little gold-leaf luxury. I also made some yummy cupcakes which I placed in jars as wedding favours.
There were so many highlights. I’ll never forget seeing my husband’s big smile at the end of the aisle and witnessing my dad’s emotion throughout the day – especially when he saw me for the first time. The speeches were brilliant and there was some amazing dancing from our guests!
Top tip: Enjoy it and think about yourselves the most. Don’t focus on making other people happy or giving in to things they’d prefer. It’s your day! I also wish I’d known how expensive some things were and had shopped around a little more.”
