Balbirnie House wins big on the world stage in south-east Asia

To paraphrase Trainspotting, it’s, err, rubbish being Scottish sometimes. We always end up with a bunch of politicians in power that we didn’t vote for; we never seem to make it to the finals of any major sporting competitions; and, to top it all off, the weather is abysmal even at the best of times. As much as we love our fair wee country, it wouldn’t hurt to throw a bone our way every once in a while.

With that in mind, we’d like to extend our warmest congratulations to Fife favourite Balbirnie House, which was recently named ‘Best Destination Wedding Hotel’ in the global category at the Haute Grandeur Awards in Kuala Lumpur.

The 13-time winner of Scotland’s ‘Wedding Hotel of the Year’ received the honour in October, when six members of staff, who between them boast over 75 years’ experience working at the hotel, journeyed to south-east Asia to watch the venue take home the trophy.

“It was such an honour to be invited to represent Scotland’s hospitality and hotel sectors,” commented owner Gaynor Russell, who runs the venue with husband Nicholas.

“Whilst in Malaysia we were thinking very much of our 2,800 past and present work colleagues, our local community, our hotel guests, and all who have been involved in and around The Scottish Hotel Awards scheme over the last 15 years,” added managing director Nicholas.

All we can say is that it’s great to finally see Scotland performing so well on a global stage – now we’re just keeping our fingers crossed for the 2022 World Cup…
