“We got married in the village where we live, where Si was born and bred. Many of our suppliers were friends and the priest was also a close family friend. We had the venue for a whole week in advance so most days our family and friends spent hours making our dreams come to life. It was such a team effort – we are very lucky!
We wanted our wedding to be laid-back and fun: a celebration that people would never forget. I love bright colours and flowers, and that was pretty much our inspiration! St Joseph’s Parish Centre had recently been refurbished, all white walls and wooden floors, and the whole ‘blank canvas’ idea totally appealed to me.
A Couple of Cooks were our caterers and they took care of everything! Their attention to detail, efficient organisation and sheer hard work really helped make our day what it was. We went for a Vietnamese menu and people still talk about it as being the best wedding food they have had.
I got my dress, my mum’s and five bridesmaids’ gowns for under £600! I would highly recommend designing your own dress to any bride-to-be, the whole process is very special and personal.
One of my favourite memories from the day was our photographer, Caro, finding a beautiful field I never knew existed – even though it’s 30 seconds from my house – and telling us to spend some time together and talk about our day. I will never forget that. We wanted our wedding photographs to be a natural record of the day without too many staged photos and that’s exactly what Caro is all about.
Top tip: It’s important to surround yourself with people who are genuinely excited for you! And remember, what’s important to you might not be as important to the groom, like having floral toilet paper in the ladies.”
