13:20 It takes a village: how to incorporate friends and family into your ceremony and remember those who have passed away with Humanist Society Scotland

Ross Wright, Helen Tuohy and David Elder of Humanist Society Scotland

Scottish celebrants from Humanist Society Scotland discuss the various ways you can make your nearest and dearest feel included in your ceremony. They’ll talk about rituals like sand ceremonies and ring warmings, share tips for picking wedding readings and speakers, and suggest thoughtful ways that you can commemorate dearly departed loved ones so that they still feel part of your wedding.

About Humanist Society Scotland

Humanist Society Scotland are the largest and longest standing provider of humanist ceremonies in Scotland. They have over 100 registered celebrants across Scotland, performing thousands of ceremonies each year. All of its ceremonies are covered by the Humanist Society Scotland promise.

Ross Wright (Saturday only) is a very experienced celebrant who says he’s “seen it all” when it comes to weddings! He started conducting ceremonies in 2008 and loves what he does because “even though I have conducted hundreds of weddings, as every couple is different, every ceremony is unique.” He was involved with Humanist Society’s equal marriage campaign and was given the privilege of conducting the first ever marriage of two people of the same sex in December 2014. Last year, he got married himself to a lovely American, and now lives between Glasgow and Fort Lauderdale.

David Elder (Sunday only) lives in Dalkeith with his husband, two cats and a very excitable Golden Retriever! He’s been a registered celebrant with HSS for a little under two years and has been conducting weddings for the past year. For David, working together with couples to plan a ceremony that is authentically “them” and reflects everything which is important to them, is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a celebrant.

David will be joined by celebrant Helen Tuohy (Sunday only), who lives in Cambuslang, near Glasgow, with Cookie the cat, but travels the length and breadth of Scotland to help couples ‘tie their knot’. She feels privileged to be in a position to help her couples celebrate ‘their’ relationship in a way that is meaningful, personal and authentic to them.
