5 things the experts wish you knew about having a marquee wedding

Is your tent-ertaining knowledge on shaky ground? We speak to Arc Marquees to find out how to get set up for success

You know what they say when you assume things – you make an… effort to have them written up and debunked by the experts, right? Well, actually, that’s not quite how the (slightly rude) saying goes, but this is definitely a clever approach to take! Arc Marquees’ brilliant project manager, Fiona Armour, shares some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the wedding marquee industry – and tells us what she wishes you knew instead.

Myth 1: Marquees are only for summer

“Marquees can be used year-round for all types of events, including weddings. Our structures are designed to withstand high winds and bad weather, making them ideal even throughout the autumn and winter months. It goes without saying that lighting and heating are key. Given that it gets darker earlier in these months, having good lighting to create the desired ambience is essential. Similarly, heating your marquee may require a little more equipment, but keeping your guests cosy and warm is straightforward.”

Myth 2: Marquees must be set up on grass

“Grassy sites and marquees work really well together, but that doesn’t mean to say you can’t have a marquee without a grassy area. Marquees can be erected on a range of different surfaces including concrete, tarmac and hardcore. If the ground is not ‘pinnable’, you’ll need ballast, but this means you can have your dream marquee wedding in nearly any location.”

Myth 3: Marquees all look the same

“Actually, I’d say it’s quite the opposite. One of the most appealing things about a marquee wedding is that you have the flexibility to control every design aspect, making it completely unique. Want glass walls to capture that beautiful view? No problem. Fancy a multicoloured rainbow carpet? Absolutely. Or perhaps you want multiple spaces for your big day with a grand reveal between each? We’ve got you covered. The possibilities are quite literally endless.”

Myth 4: Marquees must be set up on level ground

“With the right equipment, anything is possible. Our special flooring system allows us to create a level substructure on which your marquee can be built, making it much easier to choose the location you want. This could be a sloping lawn, or you may need to be higher to capture the views, or there might be an obstacle we need to get round, like a pond. All of this can be done.”

Myth 5: Marquee weddings are expensive

“No, they don’t have to break the bank. With so many different size and decor options out there, you can really tailor your marquee to suit your budget.”
