“We chose Barony Castle Hotel as it had a really chilled-out atmosphere, and when we enquired about the hotel the wedding co-ordinator Sarah-Jane had a personal touch that really swayed us. We knew we could have both our wedding and reception there, so our guests could really relax and enjoy the day.
The only thing I was concerned about was keeping flowers out of the wedding – I have allergies. I’d looked into alternatives to flowers for the bouquets and thought burlap and lace looked cool, so it snowballed from there.
I’m not a girly girl so I was dreading the thought of shopping for a wedding dress! I went to a couple of dress shops before visiting Emma Roy in Edinburgh. Lorraine at the boutique was really knowledgeable and understood what I was looking for.
I left it until the last minute to make my playlist – and then I couldn’t get on the hotel WiFi to pick a song to walk down the aisle to! Luckily, Sarah-Jane at the venue had a playlist on her iPod and I ended up walking down the aisle to All of Me by John Legend. I cringe a bit, thinking back, as I’m a bit of a rocker – but it could have been worse. It was certainly better than Michael’s suggestion – The Imperial March from Star Wars!
Our celebrant, Fiona Blair, worked with us to provide a personalised service. We brought humour into the ceremony and had Fiona tell some funny stories about how we met and our time together.
A flurry of Scottish snow gave the whole weekend a special wintry atmosphere. Snow makes everything much prettier! We didn’t have a precise plan for the day, which removed any stress. All our guests had a great time and it was such a happy day.
Top tip: Don’t agonise over every detail. We were laid-back and the day went so well for us – nice and relaxed!”
