Moss opens brand-new store at St James Quarter in Edinburgh

We got a first look as the men’s suit and formalwear specialist returns to Scotland with a rebranded store and lots of stylish options for grooms and male wedding guest attire

Whether you are a groom, best man, usher, part of the wedding party or a guest at an upcoming big day, you’ll want to wear something you’ll look and feel your absolute best in – and you might just find it at Moss.

Some gents will recall Moss Bros’s previous stores in Scotland as go-tos for suiting and formal hire, but the revitalised brand has recently had a name change – dropping ‘Bros’ from its moniker of old to just Moss. The move reflects the modern multi-channel retailer Moss is today, without losing its 172-year heritage. Yes, it still has rental and smart formalwear, but its offering is now much broader.

We got a sneak peek before the store officially opened to the public and were impressed by the wide range of silhouettes, materials and accessories and reasonable price points for the quality. Think cutting-edge tech and tailoring expertise, and fabrics are from the world’s most luxurious mills, all with high wear-again factor built in.

In line with the retailer’s new direction, everything is stripped back to show off the clothes in a simplified, but impactful way. Outfits were broadly grouped together by colour in store, which should make it a breeze for the grooms who know what hues they are playing with for their wedding – and make it easy to find inspiration for those who don’t.

Moss’s spring summer 2024 wedding collection

The SS24 wedding collection has been curated in light fabrics and airy fits. Double-breasted suits deftly tailored in copper-toned boucle sit next to powdery blue cord get-ups that would make for a memorable turn down the aisle. “We’re also currently seeing linen suits for weddings fly out of store, perhaps because destination weddings are having a bit of a boom,” says Robbi Hicks, Moss’s head of visual development, who walked us through some of the Edinburgh store’s key looks.

He also predicted that double-breasted suits would continue to grow in popularity as we move into autumn, along with richer brown and port colour palettes. We were big fans of the natty styling touches available, like knitted ties and louche suede loafers.

Whether you’re after a pin-sharp tuxedo, velvet blazer, or a more casual combination of tailored separates, Moss have it covered with its huge range of cuts and colours. Those attending weddings with a more casual dress code or looking for polished honeymoon attire will find plenty to excite them in the relaxed ready-to-wear offering that’s in store too.
