The lovely Kate at Gorgeously Sweet Cake Emporium certainly has a way with eggs and flour

A round of applause for Kate Archer at Gorgeously Sweet Cake Emporium, who has been named national champion in her category at The Cake Professionals Awards 2020.

The Aberdeen-based supplier beat off stiff competition from across the country to take home the coveted title, and we couldn’t be more proud. Her winning design was called Floral Gold and was commissioned for a 21st birthday celebration, with a brief for something elegant, classic and floral. The bottom tier was coated in 24-carat edible gold leaf, which had to be steamed onto the cake, before Kate covered the top tier in a cascade of Avalanche, David Austin and English roses. The sugar flowers alone took ten hours to make.

“Winning ‘National Cake Designer’ has been both a personal and professional highlight beyond my wildest dreams,” Kate beamed. “Having seen the other cakes I can truly say it was completely unexpected – I am utterly delighted to have won and come so far in such a short space of time.

It isn’t difficult to see why Kate’s winning entry proved so popular with judges

“2020 will see me complete my second year in business, and this award has given me the confidence to believe in myself and to keep developing my skills and take my signature style of elegant cakes adorned with sugar flowers even further. I look forward to a very exciting future for me and my business and can’t wait to see where this win takes me.”

This astounding achievement is certainly one to celebrate, but if you’d like to enlist Kate’s expertise for your wedding, we’d suggest you snap up her talents sooner rather than later – we’re guessing her diary is filling up fast!
