“We’d spent so long reading guest’s names written down on a list that it was fantastic to finally see them all come together in real life.
Culcreuch Castle Hotel was the location for both ceremony and reception. It has parts that date back to the 13th century, so it lends itself to a traditional Scottish look with plenty of tartan. It already had lots of character, so we added some personal touches courtesy of our family.
Jonathan’s mum made us tartan table runners and a plaid banner for the top table. We also used bottles of our favourite gins and whiskies for table centrepieces which included log slices cut by Matt (my cousin’s husband) decorated with James’ (Jonathan’s dad) help.
The team at the venue impressed with their attentiveness and thoughtfulness. A few days before the wedding, they strung some fairy lights across the area where the ceremony and ceilidh took place. It was a nice touch and not something we’d thought about doing ourselves.
Our civil ceremony included a Celtic blessing and drinking from the quaich. Our registrar John Boyle Hannah went through examples of previous vows he’d done to help give us ideas.
Jonathan’s groomswear was a breeze too. He wanted to wear his own kilt but with a different jacket. MacGregor and MacDuff helped pick out a suitable jacket and tartans for the rest of the groomsmen. They were well organised and efficient, and everything went smoothly even though most of the party weren’t able to visit the shop for fittings because they lived too far away.”
Top tip: “Make sure everyone gets a good feed, good drinks and has a good time and the rest will take care of itself.”
