Wife of the Party: Disco-inspired bride and bridesmaid shoot
What’s a wedding celebration without your bestie by your side? We threw a studio 54-inspired soiree at Falside Mill to showcase a glitzy selection of party-ready wedding dresses and bridesmaid gowns
We embraced all things disco at our fun-filled bride and bridesmaid photoshoot. We kitted out blank-canvas venue Falside Mill with disco balls, flowers and orange and pink decor to create the perfect backdrop for the party-ready dresses.
Here are all the details and photos from the day…
The venue – Falside Mill
The TTKS team were able to make blank-canvas venue Falside Mill their own for this disco-inspired shoot. A stone’s throw from St Andrews, the converted farm steading has been designed to the highest standard with an in-house bar, catering and furniture, plus the services of an on-site events manager.
With seating for up to 400 guests, the flexible spaces can be personalised for any occasion, be it grand or relaxed in style.
The disco-theme decor
How did Elaine Whyte at Fifty Six Events create the gorgeous venue decor? “For a fun, party-ready vibe I used an eye-catching palette of pink and orange and incorporated painted arch backdrop boards, a neon light, paper streamers and lots of disco balls! The table schemes were created using brass candlesticks and the most gorgeous candles in shades of pink and orange to tie everything together.”
The flowers
We asked Dundee-based The Greenshed Flower Studio to create vibrant blooms for our shoot: “I wanted the flowers to feel like a hot summer’s night, so palm leaves were obviously on the menu. I used blousy hydrangeas and roses, and bronze dahlias were the closest to a disco ball in flower form that I could get! The tropical vibes were topped off by pale pink anthuriums,” says owner Helen Hardman.
Bride and bridesmaid hair and makeup
Nic Denham and Lisa Blishaa of Honey and Violet Weddings helped get our bride and bridesmaid on fleek for this shoot. For makeup, Nic wanted to use a touch of colour, so opted for soft rosy tones and pink eyeliner for a relaxed, retro vibe. “On bridesmaid Mram, I used face gems to spice things up a little and various vibrant colours of lipstick to complement her bright dresses and shoes,” she said.
When it came to hair, stylist Lisa give our bride Alyona a bouncy blowdry and dressed the tresses out to a Hollywood-glamour wave, before sweeping it back for her second look. “Mram’s natural hair is fabulous, so we only enhanced this slightly to complement the accessories used for each look. We switched this up to a playful high half-up, half-down ponytail which suited the dresses to perfection,” Lisa notes.
