“Choosing Dumfries House was an easy decision. My mum had worked there for a few years, so I knew how stunning it was. It was also important to us that we had a venue that few of our friends and family had been to before. Just before our wedding, Gordon was offered a job there so it has extra significance now!
We had a humanist ceremony led by celebrant Maggie Roebuck. The individual and personal nature of a humanist ceremony really appealed to us and Maggie was great at helping us create the informal feel we were aiming for. Our friends and family played a major role which was really important to us.
My dress was very simple but with the right amount of detail to make it special. I knew almost immediately that it was the right dress for me. Although I didn’t have a particular look or style in mind before shopping, I was instantly drawn to this one at Opus Couture.
There were so many memorable moments throughout the day! One particular stand-out moment was at my mum’s house right before we left for the venue. The bridesmaids had left already so I was excited to get going but my Mum refused to leave until she had put the washing in the tumble dryer and folded a pile of towels!
Gordon’s highlight was when the piper began playing Highland Cathedral as I was about to walk down the aisle. All of our guests have commented on this too as there were a lot of tears at this point – but not from me which was a huge surprise to everyone!
Top tip: Don’t let planning stress you out. It might sound a bit clichéd, but it’s really important to keep a focus on why you’re getting married and what you both want from the day.”
