“We had our entire day at Dumfries House, Cumnock. We got married in the Tapestry room, had our drinks reception in the house and around the grounds, then had our meal and evening reception in the Pavilion. I remember going to view Dumfries House and driving up towards the big house, I just knew straight away it was the perfect place to get married. The grounds were amazing and the staff were so welcoming and professional.

We hired The Thistle Vintage Bus Bar, which is a vintage London double-decker bus that has been renovated into a bar. The open-top roof upstairs was perfect for the sunny weather that we were so lucky to get. Our guests loved it.

My family is from the Isle of Gigha, so my table plan was a map and table names were places on the island. I crafted the centrepieces myself too. My dad and brother-in-law were busy cutting logs and I purchased gold crackled lanterns which our florist dressed. My lovely friend Pauline sang for us at our ceremony as a wedding present so this was another bargain and was a lovely touch to our day.

In the run-up to our wedding, I swithered about getting my ring a half size bigger. I took it to the shop a couple of times but changed my mind and just kept it the way it was. That was never going to end well! Michael couldn’t get my ring on my finger as it was so hot my fingers had swollen up. After, what felt like a lifetime, I eventually managed to wriggle it on and I turned to my guests to show it off. This moment is captured in our wedding highlights and makes me laugh every time I watch it. It broke the ice and gave everyone a good giggle.

Our photographer Mark captured every special moment of our day. He kept us laughing and created a beautiful album for us to cherish forever. He chatted to our guests, made everyone feel at ease and he was our little page boy Oscar’s best friend by the time he finished.”

Top tip: “Enjoy all the planning – it really is worth every minute!”
