“We got engaged in December 2016 in front of the massive Christmas tree outside Gleneagles. Scott gave me a Christmas bauble personalised with our names and a drawing of a stick man on one knee proposing. We decided on a winter wedding immediately.
Dunblane Hydro hosted our entire day. It was really inviting, with a big fireplace and massive Christmas tree in the ceremony room. We wanted the hotel to feel cosy and our flowers to be crisp and wintery.
We chose a humanist ceremony and invited 100 people during the day and another 50 at night. Neither of us are particularly religious and wanted a ceremony that was very personal to us. Our humanist was Melanie Leckie and she was lovely.
Our engagement bauble took pride of place on the tree, and Scott gave me a wedding day one to match. Our dog Max inspired our table numbers – each was decorated with a photo of him.
My bridesmaids and I stayed in Cromlix Hotel in a stunning suite the night before the big day, and enjoyed afternoon tea and champagne. It was such a luxurious place and I’ll always remember that time.
I sometimes find everyone does the same poses in wedding photos and I really wanted a natural photographer who captured our day as it happened without too much posing. I never felt uncomfortable at any point having our photos taken with Jennifer from Jenniflower Photography really helped run our day and make sure it all went smoothly too!”
Top tip: “I don’t stress too much over small details because, honestly, you won’t notice if something isn’t right on the day. You’ll be too happy to be married. Decided on what’s most important to you and set a good amount of your budget for those things.”
