“Keiron proposed to me during a tuk-tuk ride in Bangkok. It was just like our relationship: unique, real and out of the ordinary! We started planning our wedding whilst still on holiday – I wrote a message in the sand asking my best friends and cousin to be my bridesmaids.

We decided to get married in Keiron’s family church, St Peter in Chains, and I converted to Catholicism before our wedding. We loved going to The Waterside Hotel for dinner, so when we heard about the plans to extend it into a bigger wedding venue we were sold.

We wanted the look of the wedding to tie in with The Waterside’s beach theme, but we opted to have more of a clean, crisp vibe rather than the rustic and relaxed theme that beach weddings can have. It was important for our guests to have a great day and to be well-fed, watered and entertained. We love a party and I think our wedding reflected this!

In addition to our drinks package, we had drinks tokens on arrival and a kitty bag on each table containing £100. We felt this was better than a free bar where some people might have a lot to drink and others might not have any. We also had an ice cream cart from Mancini’s Ice Cream, and as well as the ice cream, we had alcoholic slushies.

Our dog Candy is our baby, so we had her come along for a portion of the day, wearing a white collar and a heart plaque saying ‘My humans are getting married today’. After our first dance, I danced with my dad to ‘I Loved Her First’ by Heartland, but it cut into ‘Sexy and I Know It’ by LMFAO for a big dance off (you can see the video here).

We were lucky to have such fantastic suppliers involved in our wedding. Our photographer Grant McKelvie felt like he was one of our friends taking our pictures because he is such a good laugh! The staff at The Waterside were spot on: their attention to detail is amazing and any issues were dealt with before I even knew about them. I was so impressed by the service at Melle Cloche, and really appreciated that they offered 10% discount for NHS employees.

Top tip: Give someone your phone or camera to take some snaps for you. Your photographer will get beautiful pictures, but get some extras – especially at night when your photographer is away.
