“We got engaged at my parents’ house in Scotland – we live in Derby at the moment – on a casual Sunday relaxing with our dog Lexi. I don’t even think I’d brushed my hair and I still had my PJs on! The first thing I did was ask my bridesmaids, I couldn’t wait and had seven in total. Then we booked the venue and picked a date.
I love the sea and I am so proud of how beautiful Scotland is, so we had our hearts set on a coastal venue in Scotland. We picked Seamill Hydro before the Firth Pavilion was built because we loved the setting, but when we first walked into the ceremony room at the Firth Pavilion it blew us away – I started crying!
Our wedding had to reflect us as a couple. We wanted it to be elegant, but still show our personalities and make all our friends and family feel welcome. We love animals so we had an owl called Starlight bring in our rings. When we found out there was a company that offered this we couldn’t book them quickly enough.
I could watch the ceremony room from my bridal suite on camera and it was so exciting to see Sean waiting on me and all our guests arriving. I also loved the venue’s surprise door that allowed us to enter our wedding breakfast in style. Everyone was cheering and shouting – we felt famous.
The ceremony was the highlight of our day. Our celebrant asked us to send us things we loved about each other separately and it was so lovely hearing these on the day. We were engaged for four years, so finally saying ‘I do’ was emotional – it sounds cheesy but we finally felt whole. The feeling was so overwhelming.”
Top tip: “Pay up as much as possible along the way. We didn’t and had quite a lot to pay out in the last few months.”
