Looking for something a little different for a Glasgow hen do? We tried B51 Boutique’s build-your-own charm bar – pliers, prosecco and all

The click of your favourite heels on the pavement. The bounce that comes with a fresh blow-dry. The joy of finding the perfect non-sticky lip gloss. The dainty jingle of a charm bracelet as you go about your day. How do you explain this feeling to a man?

After a wonderful afternoon at B51 Boutique in Glasgow, believe me, I tried – excitedly sending my boyfriend a sound-on video of my new charm bracelet twirling around my wrist.

While he was sweetly supportive, it was clear he didn’t quite get it the way Hannah, our digital marketing and social media manager, did when she replied simply: “I know! I can’t stop looking at it.”

And that’s essentially the appeal of B51’s charm bar in a nutshell. You spend an afternoon making something completely personal and leave wearing a little reminder of the day. For these reasons, we reckon it’s got serious Glasgow hen party potential.

Looking for a creative hen party activity in Glasgow?

B51 Boutique’s charm bar is a build-your-own jewellery experience in Glasgow’s Merchant City where you can choose a bracelet, pick your favourite charms and assemble the finished piece yourself. It’s BYOB and group bookings are available, making it perfect for hen parties and bridal groups.

Tucked away on Parnie Street in Glasgow’s Merchant City, B51 is a must-visit if you’ve been tempted by the resurgent trend for charm bracelets. Founded by Lauren Grant, the boutique has evolved from a Barras market stall into Scotland’s first welded jewellery bar and now into the current standalone boutique, adding a build-your-own charm experience and an engraving service for truly personal keepsakes.

Charm bracelet making at B51 Boutique

Hannah and I, along with editor Beth, were the lucky volunteers for the afternoon, and from the moment we arrived Lauren and her colleague of 25 years, Joanna (Jo) Stevenson, made us feel completely at home. As we browsed, they chatted easily with customers popping in for welded jewellery appointments (B51’s signature offering) while guiding us through the charm bar experience, always on hand to answer questions or rescue anyone struggling with fiddly jump rings (yes, that was me).

The charm bar also doubles as a brilliant hen party activity. Groups of up to 25 can enjoy exclusive use of the boutique for the final two opening hours of the day, complete with BYOB (they’ll supply ice and cups), a bracelet, five charms and plenty of room for games, decorations and snacks – all for £40 a head. Lauren and Jo’s attitude is wonderfully relaxed – if you’ve got your heart set on something to create a memorable celebration, they’ll do what they can to make it happen.

What happens at B51 Boutique’s charm bar?

Creating your bracelet is surprisingly simple; here is an overview of the main steps:

Step one: choose your chain

First up, choose the base for your jewellery.

During our visit, we had three bracelet-chain styles to choose from in either plated gold or silver.

Lauren pointed out that one was a little easier to work with than the others – advice that’s definitely worth taking if you’re not the most patient with a pair of tiny pliers (or if you’re planning on getting properly stuck into the prosecco).

B51 currently offers both bracelet and necklace options through the charm bar, so your whole group doesn’t have to make the same thing.

Step two: go charm shopping

Then comes the best bit: charm shopping.

B51’s charm selection is extensive, and Lauren seems to be constantly topping it up with whatever is currently in demand – think highland coos for the summer tourists and cowboy hats and boots for the ever-popular ‘last rodeo’ hens.

Both Lauren and Jo suggest plunking more charms into the bucket than you actually intend using, saying it’s much easier to ‘shop’ then narrow them down back at the table when you can lay it all out and see what works best.

Step three: make your charm bracelet

Finally, it’s time to assemble your masterpiece using jump rings and two pairs of the aforementioned tiny pliers.

It takes a little patience, but Lauren and Jo explain everything clearly, lend a hand whenever needed and check every bracelet before you leave to make sure each charm is secure and sitting the right way round.

Is B51 Boutique good for a Glasgow hen party?

Yes – particularly if you’re looking for a creative, social hen party activity that doesn’t revolve entirely around drinking and gives everyone something to take home afterwards.

The actual making is relaxed enough that you can chat while you do it, while choosing charms gives everyone something to get involved in regardless of how crafty they normally are.

It’s also BYOB, so you can bring your drink of choice along. Groups of up to 25 can enjoy exclusive use of the boutique during certain times, so even larger groups can enjoy this activity.

That makes it particularly good if you’re looking for:

  • a daytime hen party activity in Glasgow

  • something creative rather than super high-energy

  • an activity for a group with mixed ages or interests

  • a Glasgow city-centre hen do

  • an experience with a keepsake included

  • something you can pair with lunch, dinner or drinks elsewhere in the city

And unlike plenty of hen do paraphernalia, this is something you’re actually likely to wear again.

How much does B51 Boutique’s charm bar cost?

B51’s standard charm bar bracelet chains start at £14 for silver and £16 for gold plate, while necklace chains start from £18. Charms cost £7 each, £18 for three or £25 for five. Additional charms after five charms are £6.

That means a silver bracelet with five charms currently comes to £39, while the equivalent gold bracelet is £41.

Larger groups (up to 25) can enjoy exclusive use of the boutique for £40 a head.

Prices are correct as of August 2026 and may change

The TTKS verdict: is B51 Boutique’s charm bar worth it?

For us, absolutely.

Once we’re done, and all the bracelets are checked, there are plenty of fun spots around the boutique to grab a cute photo – either solo or with your favourite people.

Beth pairs her new charm bracelet with her existing welded bracelet – which she actually had done at B51 two years ago – while Hannah and I are already planning what we’ll come back for next. As I catch my new bracelet glinting and jingling on the journey home, I can’t help but smile and think: I love being a girl.
