From what to wear to what to bring and how to plan your trip, here are our top tips for having an amazing time at a wedding show
Whether you're newly engaged or deep into wedding planning, its always fun to attend a wedding show. The day will go quickly, so to make the most of the experience take a look at our wedding show must-have checklist...
Wear comfortable shoes
There will likely be places for you to sit down and relax during the event, but seating areas can get quite busy and most of your time will be spent walking around all of the stalls.
So, although you might be dressing up for the day out, make sure you're in footwear that'll be comfy all day.
What should I wear to a wedding show?
There are no rules so you can wear whatever you like. A day dress or a jeans-and-nice-top type of outfit is popular among brides-to-be and their accompanying bridal party.
Most of the suppliers will be dressed more smartly (with a few kilts and wedding dresses being sported too) but there's no dress code for attendees.
Many groups also wear cute bridal accessories like sashes, crowns, headbands and heart sunglasses. So, have fun with it!
Bring the right bag
You'll be weaving in and out of crowds all day, so you don't want to have a big bulky bag on your arm.
Opt for a small crossbody or shoulder bag for all of your essentials, but bring a tote bag to put all of the freebies and flyers in (you'll accumulate a lot of brochures from exhibitors). This way you can say yes to everything and still have your hands free for the rest of the day.
Look into who is exhibiting
If it's listed, find out who will be at the wedding show before you go. If there are any suppliers you really want to get to know you can find out where their stand is and make sure you head there first.
Or if you know there's something specific you want to book but you don't have a supplier in mind, take a look at all of the people in that category so you can swing by.
There can be a lot to take in when you walk in, and if you're not sure who will be there, do a lap of the venue when you first arrive to get an idea of what's on offer and your priorities.
There will be over 200 exhibitors at The Scottish Wedding Show this October, check out their supplier list.
Don't miss the activities and features
There also might be catwalk shows, live band showcases, demonstrations or other activities happening throughout the day that you don't want to miss, so make sure you plan your day around all of the must-see things.
Get there early
Unsurprisingly wedding shows are the busiest in the middle of the day and early afternoon, so if you want to beat the crowds and get the chance to chat to specific suppliers make sure you head along for the start time.
Make the most of deals and samples
Many exhibitors will give out free samples of their products (cakes, drinks, beauty products etc) or will let you try out their service (photobooths, animals services, makeup) if you visit while there's still availability.
Other places will offer discounts or throw in some freebies if you book with them while at the show, so it's important to have a good idea of what you would be able to book right now.
Who should I bring to a wedding show?
You can attend the wedding show with whoever you like, but it seems like its the most fun to go as a group and make a day of it.
For some serious planning and list-ticking bring your fiancé so you can get inspired and get the wedding plans underway.
Or for more of a girls day out bring your bridesmaids, mum, gran, and auntie, get your bride-to-be sash on and enjoy taking it all in with a glass of prosecco in hand.
Check if you need to buy a ticket or RSVP
For any wedding event, whether its a wedding show, venue open day or bridal shop sale, always check if you need to buy a ticket, reserve a space or if you can just show up.
You might also be able to get a free glass of prosecco or a better ticket price by booking early.
Tickets are on sale for The Scottish Wedding Show on 19th and 20th October, with VIP options available.
