Kim & Andy Murray

Kim Murray, wife of tennis legend Andy and owner of luxury hotel Cromlix, reminisces about their wedding almost 11 years ago

The wedding

"Andy and I took our vows in Dunblane Cathedral, the town where Andy grew up. We got married on 11th April 2015 and it was a typical Scottish spring day – a mix of sunshine, rain, hail and even some snow!

"Despite that, so many local people came out to cheer us on which was lovely. After the ceremony, we held our reception at Cromlix which we had bought in 2013 and had recently reopened after we had refurbished it. It was such a special day."

Favourite moment

"Having all our friends and family joining us. The tennis calendar doesn’t offer many windows for a celebration like a wedding, so we felt very lucky that so many people were able to make it."

Looking back

"I’d have had more flowers. One of the things we introduced when we renovated Cromlix in 2023 was to have more cut flowers inside the house, many of them grown in the hotel’s garden, and I adore the brightness and fragrance they bring.

"If I could go back in time, I would have added more blooms and wildflowers from the beautiful Scottish countryside that surrounds the hotel."

A tip for a happy marriage

"Make each other laugh every single day."

The wedding

"We got married at Guardswell Farm on 3rd December 2022. Its fantastic on-site accommodation allowed us to have our families and closest friends there with us the whole weekend."

Favourite moment

"Without a doubt the ceilidh! We had a large number of guests who aren’t Scottish and they were blown away by how fun and carefree the dancefloor became when the ceilidh started."

Looking back

"Content creators weren’t really a thing at the time but have since become a popular supplier addition," Lynsey Sharp, now Lynsey Butchart, says.

"I would’ve definitely hired one alongside our photographer."

A tip for a happy marriage

"Communication really is key. Tell each other how you feel – no matter if it’s happy, sad or angry!"

The wedding

"Jonatan and I were married in Stockholm on 12th June 2008. We held the ceremony in the Finnish Church, which just happens to be across from the Royal Palace, and our reception was at The Grand Hotel."

Favourite moment

"The mix of guests from all over the world – let’s just say, the Scandinavians and Scots have an appreciation for wine and beer, so it was a very merry affair."

Looking back

"I wish our son could have been there. He wasn’t born then; in fact, he wasn’t even thought about!"

A tip for a happy marriage

"Living separate lives! I know it sounds crazy but it’s always worked for us and we’re still going strong. I think it’s down to having busy lives and careers separate from each other."

Atta & Sabeen Yaqub

Actor, presenter and model Atta and wife Sabeen eschewed the big guest list typically associated with Asian weddings

The wedding

"We got married at Gleddoch Golf & Spa Resort back in July 2017. Unlike other Asian weddings, which are often huge, Sabeen and I set a limit – and we’re so glad we did.

"It meant we could enjoy spending time with those that mean the most to us in our lives."

Favourite moment

"Our newlywed photoshoot with our photographer Gerardo Jaconelli was entertaining – plenty of laughs! We also had live tabla music on arrival which our guests loved."

Looking back

"Maybe we’d have invited a few more guests to stop the moaning of those who didn’t come, haha."

A tip for a happy marriage

"Communicate, share and trust in each other and don’t allow yourselves to be influenced by others."

The wedding

"Our wedding was relaxed, personal and just full of celebration. We got married at Pollok House in Glasgow on 7th October 2023 on what was probably the wettest day of the decade – but we didn’t let the weather hold us back.

"We had quite a small ceremony with about 50 people, followed by dinner and an evening celebration where more friends joined us. We hit our piñata cake with force, danced without a care in the world, and laughed with our favourite people beside us."

Favourite moment

"Straight after the ceremony, when we got a minute just the two of us to soak in all the joy!"

Looking back

"It’s a wee bit cheesy but I genuinely wouldn’t change a thing – apart from the weather, I guess."

A tip for a happy marriage

"Seek out fun where you possibly can and try to make sure that you get to spend some time together doing those fun things – even if it’s a night on the sofa with your favourite movie!"

The wedding

"It was an intimate wedding in the Algarve in September 2017 with a relaxed, loving atmosphere and lots of joy and dancing – it was the perfect reflection of us as a couple."

Favourite moment

"It might sound clichéd, but it was the shared feeling of love and togetherness with our friends and family."

Looking back

"I wouldn’t stress the small details as much. I spent so much time trying to perfect everything, when really, great hospitality and good music were all we needed. That’s what people remember, and that’s what made it special."

A tip for a happy marriage

"We’ve learnt to give each other space to make mistakes and grow, together and as individuals. We’ve been together since we were 23 and have very much learned life as we go."

The wedding

"Lee and I got married back in August 2013 at Banchory Lodge. I had planned for an outdoor ceremony but the rain had other ideas. Thankfully it dried up after that, and my vision of ‘Pimms on the lawn’ materialised."

Favourite thing

"Aside from the groom? Probably how relaxed it was; we didn’t want it to feel stuffy, we just wanted it to feel like a huge celebration with loved ones."

Looking back

"If I was to do it all over again, I’d really rein it in – small, intimate, maybe on a beach in the sunshine – with no formal sit-down dinner. Basically, no frills or fuss!"

A tip for a happy marriage

"Laugh lots, never go to bed on an argument and always find the fun!"

Alan & Susie Cormack Bruce

The wedding

"Alan and I tied the knot at the beautiful Solsgirth House in Dollar on 13th April 2013. It was a wonderful day with friends and family, and I spent the night before with my soon to be stepdaughter, Pearl."

Favourite moment

"Having family and friends – including from Malta and Australia – join us and be part of the day."

Looking back

"I wish we had booked a videographer. I was resistant because I wondered when we would watch it. In hindsight, it would have been money well spent as it would be lovely to have happy, fun and above all, precious footage of our parents, and friends, who are sadly no longer with us."

A tip for a happy marriage

"Understanding there’s a ‘you’, a ‘me’ and a ‘we’ in a marriage. Supporting and giving each other space to pursue personal interests, hobbies and ambitions helps strengthen your bond."

Ricky & Karena Valentine

The wedding

"We got married at Dunkeld Cathedral and partied at Dunkeld House Hotel in August 2015. We had 160 guests, an outdoor drinks reception, photos at The Hermitage then a dinner and ceilidh."

The vow renewal

"It was intimate and perfectly simplistic at Deeside Registrars and Glen Dye Cabins and Cottages in August 2025. Aside from us and our four kids, I had my mum, stepdad and friend/photographer Emma Lawson present.

"We wanted to capture the formality of the day by exchanging vows in a registered office so that the kids truly felt as though mummy and daddy were getting married again.

"We had the kids write and read their own words to us (which they thought was a gift for our anniversary as we’d kept everything a surprise till the night before), and we welcomed all the chaos that brought!

'We made the day mostly about them and created an experience that they will hopefully remember forever."

A tip for a happy marriage

"Communication, respect and friendship are key. You need to always talk, laugh and remember that you’re on the same team through the ever-changing seasons of marriage."
