Caitlin and Gordon wanted a laid-back and intimate wedding that would suit their two-year-old son, and marrying in the bride's parent's garden suited them perfectly

“We got married in my parent’s garden and had the rest of the day in a tipi in one of their fields. We had looked at a few venues beforehand, and it was difficult to find something that was ‘us’. We initially toyed with the idea of a marquee at my parent’s house but I wasn’t sold. Then my mum came across Below Canvas’ tipis and I just loved them – it was exactly what we’d be looking for!

We were always keen on having something pretty laid back and fairly small, we have a little boy who is two, so it was really important to us that he would feel relaxed and be able to enjoy the day as much as us.

The fact it was at my parent’s house meant pretty much every element of the day was personal to us. I think the biggest thing for me was the running order of the day. We tore up the rule book when it came to day guests/evening guests, instead having close family and friends there for our ceremony, with everyone else joining soon after for a drinks reception and meal.

Below Canvas worked like trojans in pretty substantial heat putting up the tipis. They also helped out hanging our 200 pom poms which would literally have taken us days.

We ended up going for a walk with our little boy in the field beside where the tipi was just as the sun was going down. It was a really nice moment and we managed to get some lovely pictures too!”

Top tip: “Try not to stress about it too much – the day is over in a flash and not worth it.  It’s easy to get wrapped up in things and carried away but remember it’s your day and it’s not about keeping others happy.”
