The couple hosted a weekend-long celebration packed with surprises – from a pipe band and barbecue feast to personalised cocktails and even a bouncy castle.

The proposal: A night with Elton John (almost!)
A weekend-long wedding with surprise entertainment, personalised cocktails… and a bouncy castle? One thing’s for sure: the new Mr and Mrs Farmer know how to throw a party!
“We wanted to do things our way rather than follow what we ‘had to’ do. It was pure magic,” says Andy, the loved-up groom.
Wedding planning timeline: everything from the engagement to the big day
He had met Danielle through her cousin Jamie and, once he’d finally plucked up the courage to ask her out for a cocktail or two, the couple realised they were meant to be together.
“I’d always say to Jamie, ‘Oh, your wee cousin is gorgeous’,” Andy recalls. “Then, when Jamie sadly passed away, we had each other to talk to.”
Their engagement is one that’ll go down in family legend, thanks to Andy trying to get Elton John play a part.
“We were going to see him in concert at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, so I called the venue to see if Elton would be willing to announce my plans on stage – I’d seen him doing it previously for fans,” he explains.
Sadly, Sir Elton was a little too preoccupied with his gig to play Cupid, but the Radisson RED stepped in and secured a table with Glasgow’s skyline as the perfect backdrop, says Danielle.
“Andy got down on one knee and the whole restaurant was cheering for us… even though I’d told him I wanted a fuss-free engagement,” she laughs.
The venue: A blank canvas with rustic charm
With no tantrums or tiaras in sight, the couple got down to planning an unforgettable weekend wedding for 100 of their nearest and dearest.
How to decorate a barn or blank-canvas venue for your wedding
“We both loved the idea of an outdoor, barn-style wedding, and the minute we viewed Eden Leisure Village in Cumbernauld, we could see it ticked all our boxes,” recalls the bride.
Despite this being a blank-canvas venue, Danielle is happy to confirm she’s not the creative or DIY type.
“I put my full faith in Ivory Tower Weddings & Events in Hamilton, and I’m so glad I did,” she smiles.
Planning the day: Teamwork and trust
But the planning wasn’t all down to Danielle, as Andy points out – he was fully involved in the process too.
“I didn’t want Danielle to feel she had to do everything or be stressed. We’d sit down, talk about the wedding and make decisions, and there were never any arguments. It probably helped that I agreed with most things she wanted, though,” he laughs.
The icing on the cake had to be their “hilarious” photographer. “I came across Julieanne on TikTok and loved not only her style but her personality too,” says the bride.
“On our day, she just read the room and worked her magic.”
Next on Danielle’s to-do list was her dress, and that effortlessly fell into place, too.
“Finding my dress was just like finding the venue – I went to just one boutique and there it was: ‘the one’. I tried on a couple of different styles but the minute I saw my dress, I knew right away this was it.”
Everything you need to know about wedding dress alterations and fittings
With everything sorted, all that was left to do was tie the knot.
“For the night before our wedding, we’d hired Eden Leisure’s pods for our close friends and family to stay. We all had dinner together and it was lovely to have that extra time for everyone to get to know one another,” says Andy.
“Then, on the morning of the wedding, I was on chef duty, which helped keep any nerves at bay – although my best man tried to take credit for making breakfast!”
The details: From first looks to personalised cocktails
Danielle, meanwhile, was being pampered with her bridesmaids and flowergirls ahead of one of the most emotional highlights of the day – doing a first look with her dad and two sons. Perhaps the only moment that topped this was when she walked down the aisle.
“I tried to keep it together, but my lip started trembling,” says Andy.
One thing the groom had up his sleeve, however, was a surprise performance by Clanadonia, who played ‘Highland Cathedral’ for his bride.
The couple had organised the tribal drum and pipe band to play for guests before the ceremony, but Andy asked them if they’d stay behind to pipe Danielle down the aisle, and they were happy to oblige.
The perfect ending: A private dance for two
Next up was their ceremony, conducted by the entertaining Mark the Humanist (love and laughter were a big priority for this couple, if you couldn’t already tell!), which included a handfasting and personal vows – two serious ones and a jokey one, of course.

“We then had cocktails and a barbecue for dinner. If we’d booked a hotel, for example, we might have done a three-course dinner, but this was ideal for our set-up,” says Andy.
“Our reception band were out of this world and kept everyone dancing all night.”
Although hired for the wee ones, it seems the ‘big kids’ were just as keen to make the most of the extra entertainment: a bouncy castle.
“We did look at hiring a Captain America-themed one, but figured a white castle was a little more suited to a wedding,” Danielle laughs.
And even though Elton wasn’t there when they needed him, they still love him: one of their favourite moments was a private dance behind closed barn doors, just the two of them, to ‘Your Song’. A full-circle moment.
