Pops of colour and personal touches made this wedding at Mar Hall shine

A visit from their dog Milo and a jam-packed dance floor contributed to the success of Natalie and Euan's big day, as the bride recalls...

“The biggest delay in our planning came from not booking our venue until nine months before the wedding. We viewed over 15 different castles and houses in the run-up, but as soon as we saw Mar Hall we knew it was the one.

The picturesque views over the River Clyde and lush gardens just felt like the dream setting. I loved the fact the whole wedding party could arrive the day before. The boys all played golf and then in the evening our families and wedding party all enjoyed a meal together, it was the perfect start to the weekend.

I knew I wanted my flowers to make an impact and provide that ‘pop of colour’, especially in the marquee which is white, so I wanted to bring warmth to it with greenery, flowers and also lots of candles.

Euan went on the morning of the wedding to Auchentoshan Distillery to open a cask of whisky and pour the first bottle as a keepsake of our day. This is now a special keepsake as the bottle is marked with our wedding date.

Our dog walker brought our dog Milo through for a couple of hours so that he could be in our pictures. Everyone thought we were crazy, but we were adamant and I’m so glad we had him with us on our big day!

We have over 500 pictures and they all document our day down to the tiny details – I honestly have no idea how Suzanne managed to capture everything so perfectly, especially all of the candids of our guests enjoying themselves.

One of my favourite memories was the band blasting out ‘Freed from Desire’ whilst everyone was bouncing Euan and I in the air on the dancefloor. I love watching it back as it was really unexpected, and it shows everyone having a great time!

Top tip: “I wish I’d printed off a list of what group photos I wanted to give to the photographer, and also passed this to the ushers to get them done quicker.”
