“We got engaged on 20th December, and originally planned to have a summer wedding. We looked at a couple of venues before we visited Kinkell Byre. Once we saw the venue at Christmas we changed our plans and decided to hold our big day in December.
We thought we would go for rustic styling, but everything changed for the better when we started to match things to the time of year. We found magazines and Pinterest a big help and then just let our ideas come together to make one magical day.
I found the idea that when a loved one passes that they come back as a robin very comforting, so we made this a feature of our centrepieces.
Instead of gifts for us, we asked our family and friends to bring a present to donate to Cash for Kids. We’ve lived together for a while, so we’d rather give gifts to less fortunate children at Christmas.
We scored some big bargains during our planning – our bridesmaid dresses cost just £18 each. Plus we managed to pick up 100 favour boxes for £10. Our caterers were another highlight. They were so helpful and we loved the family-style setup of our meal, where guests had to put on chefs’ hats and serve their own table.
We had rain, sleet, snow, wind and sunshine on our day, but our day was completely us so we wouldn’t change a thing!”
Top tip: “Wedding insurance is a big thing that will give you peace of mind. Also, do your research. If you like a product or service, look online or phone round and see if you’re getting the best price.”
