A love story years in the making

When Georgie and Christopher’s paths first crossed at the age of 14, neither could have imagined their lives would forever be intertwined.

“When we reconnected at 17, everything fell into place,” says the bride. “From that moment, we were never apart.”

Once the couple had welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Ralph, they decided it was time to tie the knot.  “We found a love that is pure, patient and deeply meant to be,” smiles Georgie.

“We couldn’t wait to become husband and wife.”

Choosing The Signet Library wedding venue in Edinburgh

And their journey to finding a wedding venue was just as meaningful.

“The moment I saw the Signet Library, I just knew – it was everything I’d been looking for and more,” recalls the bride.

“I loved that I’d never personally seen a wedding there before, and even my planner and my event designer and florist hadn’t hosted one there either. Christopher and I even managed to secure our dream date. It just felt like it was meant for us and our story.”

Timeless wedding styling and luxury details

“I have quite a maximalist style and wanted something old and grand,” explains the bride, “a venue with the kind of timeless elegance you’d find at The Plaza in New York, say.”

She worked closely with the Signet Library and her planner and event designer, Premier Weddings Scotland, to bring her wedding vision to life.

“The theme was timeless and elegant, and everything I’d put on Pinterest came to life.

"We hired tables, plates, chandeliers, aisle decor, a custom dancefloor and a DJ booth.

"We made every detail work in harmony with the library. The whole team at the venue were wonderful and always available to answer our questions.”

Ceremony and drinks in The Lower Library

Making the most of the versatile and flexible venue, Georgie and Chris opted to have their ceremony and drinks reception in the Lower Library, followed by dinner and dancing upstairs.

The bride-to-be had a joyful morning with her mum, sister and bridesmaids, while Chris got ready in the company of their little boy Ralph.

“The moment when the doors opened to the pianist playing the music from ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ and I saw Chris, I felt completely at peace,” smiles Georgie.

“All my pre-ceremony nerves just disappeared, and it felt like it was only the two of us in the room. Ralph called out ‘Mumma!’ as I reached the top of the aisle – it was one of my favourite moments of the whole day.”

Dinner and dancing in The Upper Library

After the couple had exchanged their vows, they happily mingled with their 115 guests before slipping away for photos.

“We had booked a singer to come in and keep the energy upbeat while the two of us got our photographs taken.

"The grand pillars and ceiling in the Upper Library in particular are incredible, and definitely a must-have picture opportunity.”

Food, speeches and evening party highlights

Chris and Georgie describe themselves as “total foodies”, so it’s no surprise to hear dinner was a big deal for this pair of newlyweds. Scallops, chicken and pavlova were all on the menu.

“The food was unbelievable and exactly what we wanted.

"Our speeches were too – they were funny, heartfelt and so full of love.”

With the formalities concluded and everything running smoothly, the couple were ready to let their hair down on the dancefloor.

“We had a full band for the evening party. The energy was electric, and everyone was up dancing all night. It truly was the best day of our lives – perfect from start to finish.”
