A BBQ-buffet dinner, crazy golf and giant Jenga games and an ice-cream trike all played their part in making Kerrie and Dominic's big day at The Cow Shed Crail a hit

“Growing up, I would spend every summer in St Andrews, so Fife holds a special place in my heart. Dom and I have also visited the East Neuk regularly, so after he popped the question (in November 2016 at Niagra Falls), our first thought was to marry in the area, with the view that our families could enjoy time in a place that’s important to us.
We wanted a Catholic ceremony, so married at St James’ Church in St Andrews, before heading to The Cow Shed Crail for the reception.
Distance was the biggest problem we had to overcome when planning our big day as we live in the northwest of England. It meant we had to do a lot of organising by email but, on the flip side, we took full advantage of holidays in Fife to do tastings and scout suppliers.
Food played a big part in our wedding. We ditched the formal, sit-down meal for a relaxed, two-course BBQ buffet. We were also keen to showcase tasty Fife fare. One of our regular holiday go-tos is Barnett’s Bakery (we don’t go home to Manchester without taking about £50 worth of its bakes back with us!), so we got it to supply pies and bread for our evening reception.
Some of my happiest childhood memories involve trips to Jannettas Gelateria, so I couldn’t resist renting its ice-cream trike laden with five flavours of gelato: apple pie, vanilla, mint choc chip, Ferrero Rocher and Iron Brew sorbet. It was one of the highlights of the day.
We wanted natural-looking shots with not a lot of editing apparent. When we reached out to Jenny Beckett at JB Moments, she put us at ease straight away and we are thrilled with the results. I can’t stop looking back at our album!
We wanted fun to be at the heart of the day. We hired a nine-hole crazy golf course, giant Jenga and Connect 4 from JP Inflatables and arranged a ring toss, a croquet set and loads of crafts for the kids in attendance.
I wouldn’t change a thing about the wedding. Even the weather was amazing! Dom jokes that his highlight was my dress getting stuck on the door when we entered the marquee ahead of the meal, but for me, the speeches really made my day: they were personal and made me laugh, cry and everything in between.”
Top tip: “If you are doing a lot of it yourself, organise in advance and don’t be afraid to ask for help in making, crafting and contacting people.”
