A historic castle wedding in Scotland 

Perched atop an extinct volcano, Edinburgh Castle is a world-famous location for weddings in Scotland’s capital. Say your vows surrounded by dramatic architecture and ancient stories, then celebrate with your guests in one of the castle’s exclusive spaces. From private views of the Scottish Crown Jewels to fine dining and dancing, weddings here are steeped in romance, grandeur and tradition.

Please note that due to visitor demand – up to 13,000 daily visitors during its busy summer season – weddings at Edinburgh Castle are available from October to May only.

Religious, civil and humanist weddings can be held in St Margaret’s Chapel, the Queen Anne Building, Jacobite Room and Gatehouse Suite.

Large celebrations at Edinburgh Castle

Queen Anne Building 

Capacity: up to 120 for the ceremony, 170 for the evening

Dating back to the 1700s, the Queen Anne Building comprises of a glazed courtyard and bar area, plus its main ceremony and dining area.

Jacobite Room

Capacity: up to 100 for the ceremony, 150 for the evening

In the 18th century Jacobite Room, contemporary interiors, majestic high ceilings and views across the Firth of Forth combine to create an incredible setting for your celebrations.

The Redcoat Room next door is an ideal spot for pre-dinner drinks, and both rooms can be used throughout the evening for dancing.

Intimate weddings at Edinburgh Castle

Gatehouse Suite

Capacity: up to 34 for the ceremony, 40 for the drinks reception

Located above the main drawbridge entrance to the castle is the intimate 19th-century Gatehouse Suite, a luxurious wood-panelled space with a spiral staircase, private terrace and picturesque views of the Esplanade and Pentland Hills.

St Margaret’s Chapel

Capacity: Up to 30 guests

The smallest of the venues at Edinburgh Castle – and the oldest in Edinburgh – is the beautiful St Margaret’s Chapel. Historically used by the royal family, the building has been expertly preserved with its original ornate arches and stained-glass windows from the 1920s and is now the ideal space for hosting your closest friends and family for your big day.

Each space at Edinburgh Castle has its own unique catering offerings for your special day, from canapés and afternoon tea to three-course meals and lunches.

All-inclusive package – Queen Anne Building

For up to 120 guests, this package includes:

•  Exclusive hire of the Queen Anne Building

•  Private viewing of the Scottish Crown Jewels (subject to timings)

•  Glass of Prosecco upon arrival/after the ceremony

•  Three course wedding breakfast

•  Half bottle of house wine per person

•  Additional glass of Prosecco for speeches and toasts

Reception packages – Gatehouse Suite

This package is only available after your ceremony for between 10–34 guests and is served in either the Gatehouse or the private terrace (weather permitting).

Two glasses of Prosecco per person and five canapés per person.

Two cocktails (Kir Royale, Bellini, Negroni, Old Fashioned, Aperol Spritz) and five canapés per person.

Two glasses of NV Champagne, one frosted cupcake and a Scottish cheeseboard per person.

Drinks and Canapés package – St Margaret’s Chapel

Follow your ceremony in St Margaret’s Chapel with some delicious refreshments for up to 30 guests

Champagne Afternoon Tea – St Margaret’s Chapel

Host a lovely afternoon tea in the Queen Anne Anteroom for between 10–24 guests. This includes:

•  Glass of NV Champagne

•  Traditional afternoon tea with a selection of cakes, sandwiches and home baked scones with jam and clotted cream

•  Tea and coffee

Lunch Package – St Margaret’s Chapel

Following your ceremony and photographs, host a formal lunch in the Queen Anne Anteroom for between 10–20 guests. This includes:

•  Glass of Prosecco on arrival

•  Two (£90pp) or three (£99pp) course lunch followed by tea and coffee

•  Half bottle of house wine per person

•  Crockery, cutlery and glassware

•  Staffing for service

  Solid cake stand and knife

Where is Edinburgh Castle?

Edinburgh Castle is located on Castle Rock in Edinburgh’s historic city centre; it is just a 30-minute drive from Edinburgh Airport and is an eight-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station and Edinburgh Trams route.

Is Edinburgh Castle exclusive use?

Edinburgh Castle itself is not available for exclusive use and remains open to the public during your celebration. However, exclusive use of some areas of the castle can be arranged, including in the evening.

Is there in-house catering?

Yes, Edinburgh Castle’s team of talented chefs will provide your catering on the big day, cooked in the Castle kitchen.

Proud of its Scottish larder and in partnership with regional suppliers to source the best local produce throughout the estate, Edinburgh Castle is passionate about not only supporting local suppliers, but ensuring a positive environmental impact by reducing food miles through sourcing from Scottish suppliers within a 100-mile radius.

Is there accommodation?

Edinburgh Castle does not have on-site accommodation. However, due to its convenient location, there are numerous stunning hotels nearby to choose from.

Is Edinburgh Castle accessible?

Except for the Gatehouse Suite, all other wedding spaces at Edinburgh Castle are fully wheelchair accessible. The Gatehouse Suite is accessed by a spiral staircase.
