“The first thing we ticked off was our celebrant, Duncan Robertson. He married our friends a few weeks after we got engaged and he had such a fantastic presence that we knew he’d be perfect. My sister and her fiance have now booked him for their wedding next year.
I grew up in Fife, but had no idea Cambo Estate existed. The fact we could hire it for the whole weekend, have all our family under one roof and the party woodland area had no curfew was everything I had dreamed of. Frances and her team were so accommodating to all our wishes and it really felt like the place was ours for the time we were there.
Lots of our details meant something to us. From the little gun cartridges in the boys’ buttonholes and the feathers in my bouquet and hair, to the sloe gin on the tables, I loved that they all had a story behind them.
Our wedding was the best weekend of our lives. One of my favourite moments was when my bridesmaid Rachael organised for my horse Ted to surprise me after the ceremony. I’ve had him since I was 12 and it was so special for him to be there given that he is now 28 years old.
The only thing I would change is having the ceremony earlier to make the day last longer. Oh, and I wish I had a picture of me getting my taxi home… in a wheelbarrow!”
Top tip: “A lot of our suppliers came from recommendations. If you know someone that’s had a good experience, you can’t put a price on that.”
