“James grew up in South Africa and moved to Scotland in 2013 to be with his family. When the time came to purchase my engagement ring he flew out there, as a South African diamond with a Protea setting was important to James.
The Protea is the national flower of South Africa said to be the only flower that can with stand the warmest summers and harshest winters. I treasure my ring so very much and appreciate the care and attention that went into selecting it for me.
The first decision we made was the date – we selected a date in between James’ grandparent’s wedding anniversary and my parents – closely followed by the location. I have always wanted to be married in Dunkeld.
We chose Dunkeld Cathedral for the ceremony. I visited the Cathedral as a child and adored it. We visited only two venues for the reception and fell in love with Dunkeld House Hotel.
My parents stay at the hotel every year and we had heard only great things about the staff. The Cathedral and the hotel sit on the banks of the River Tay and are surrounded by gorgeous woodland. The hotel is quintessentially Scottish, but in a tasteful, contemporary way.
We arranged a wedding scent experience at Jo Malone London before the big day. We combined some fragrances that were personal to us and both wore the same base notes. We had creams and candles to accompany the scent and our bridal party all wore the base fragrance. Now when we burn the candle at home we are reminded of our beautiful day.
The ceilidh band made the wedding. Every single person got up to dance. People danced with old friends, and made new ones. There were guests from England, America, South Africa and Australia and everyone gave the ceilidh dancing a go.
Top tip: “The ceilidh band finished at 10pm and we’d created a playlist comprised of songs that our guests had recommended on the RSVP. This was a gamble but it paid off! The band left their speakers free of charge and I used my Mac. It worked a treat. It didn’t cost us a penny and only the songs we wanted to be played were played. Definitely recommend this to those planning a wedding.”
