As one of the hardest working women on the Scottish couture scene, maverick designer Joyce Young never stops for a minute. The question is never what’s new, but what’s new now?

“I’m very excited about the exclusive fabrics in our latest couture range for mothers of the bride and groom,” enthuses Joyce. “We have beautiful embroideries, laces and beading in subtle pastels and silks in strong, summer shades. We’ve also introduced a coral hue in a selection of silk organzas, shantung and crepe, creating an even wider range of colours. All our couture designs are individually made to measure for a perfect fit and are unique to our stores in both Glasgow and London.”

And there’s more. “This season, we’re launching a capsule collection of made to order dresses and outfits called Joyce Young Studio,” reveals Joyce. “These will be offered in a choice of tones and will be available in sizes 8 to 24.”

“The fabrics and colours are different to those in our couture line and the designs will be priced as standard sizes, with alterations not included, appealing to our discerning clients who adore our signature style but whose budget won’t quite stretch to couture. Initially, we’ll have long coats with slits, trousers and tunics.”

With so much in the works, what’s Joyce’s hot pick for mothers in the months ahead? “At the moment, my favourite is the vibrant teal silk organza coat and wild silk dress, captured on the catwalk at The Scottish Wedding Show [above, £POA],” she says. “The design is taken from our couture collection and comes in several colours.”
