“Even though we first visited Bachilton Barn on a cold and rainy day, I fell in love immediately. We viewed 20 other venues after and nothing compared. We loved the idea of a barn wedding, and after initial apprehension, we got our parents onside.
Our ceremony was a Christian service and was officiated by Nagy Iskander. Nagy is Brian’s mum’s neighbour and has known Brian since he was 7 years old. We were delighted when he offered as this made it even more personal.
I designed and made a lot of things for the wedding myself, with Brian helping with the bigger items, like the welcome board pallet and the ladder. I even made my own hairpiece. I bought a basic gold combed headpiece, purchased some artificial flowers and thistles, and bound it all together.
Our bridal party, close friends and family stayed in the cottages on site for the weekend. The night before the big day we all gathered for food and drinks in my mum’s cottage while the kids all played outside enjoying the Perth countryside. Everyone chipped in to help decorate the barn.
Our floristry was by Thistle Flowers. Yvonne was excellent – she took my vision and made it a reality. The bouquets and arrangements were my favourite part of the wedding; the colours really worked with my overall theme and pulled everything together. The flowers were complimented on by most guests and looked great in all the photos.
Seeing everyone enjoy themselves was really special and hearing all the stories the next day was great too as you miss so much throughout.”
Top tip: “There are so many amazing suppliers out there and it took some time to go through them to ensure we picked the people that best suited our wedding style. Enjoy the process and make it your own, this makes a big difference on the day.”
