Wedding decor can completely change how a celebration feels – and for Emma Gordon of Duchess Seerra, that emotional response is at the heart of every design decision.
Working with couples across Scotland and beyond, the stylist and florist is known for expressive colour palettes, layered styling and floristry concepts that feel personal rather than formulaic.
From bespoke moodboards and stationery design to large-scale installations and on-the-day styling, Emma takes a collaborative approach that evolves with each couple.
Read on for Emma’s advice on wedding styling, floristry trends and creating a wedding aesthetic with real personality.
Emma often begins working with a couple as much as a year and a half before their wedding, reassuring them that early decisions are never set in stone: “My role is providing guidance and cohesion, shaping a look that feels intentional and elevated, while ensuring their personality remains at the heart of every detail.”
Meet Duchess Seerra founder Emma Gordon
How did Duchess Seerra begin?
"Starting Duchess Seerra wasn’t part of some perfectly mapped-out plan. It actually all began when life threw me a curveball and I had to change my career entirely.
"I began dreaming up a business focused on vintage decor and floristry, aiming to create a service for those like myself (people who are a little eccentric, but wildly creative, deeply romantic and unapologetically themselves) who’ve maybe been told they’re ‘too much’ or that their ideas are ‘too out there’, especially when it comes to their wedding."

How would you describe your wedding styling aesthetic?
"I like to design weddings with intention, a little attitude and a clear point of view. Nothing should be accidental.
"My styling and floristry designs are for couples who want their wedding to feel current, expressive and unmistakably theirs. We lean into bold choices, using colour and thoughtful styling to create impact from the moment you walk into the room.
"I believe weddings should feel exciting and fun without being frivolous, and elevated without being stiff."

The wedding styling process
Where do you find inspiration when you’re developing a floral or wedding styling concept?
"I’ll draw on the personalities of the couple in question and what shines through during our initial consultation call. I like to see what makes them light up with excitement.
"I’m heavily influenced by interior design, particularly the way light, colour and texture can shape the way a room feels. There’s a natural, ever-evolving connection between interior design and floristry and it’s something that influences and inspires me."
From consultation to on the day, what does the Duchess Seerra design process involve?
"I have developed a fully immersive and highly personal process to ensure your wedding feels and looks the way you want it to.
"Every detail is thought out carefully, and you’ll be able to see that, from our first consultation through to your bespoke moodboard, complete with personalised videos guiding you through each design decision.

"I work with your budget, and we’ll turn ideas into realistic and practical design choices which all function and look fabulous.
"On the day itself, I will be there to style and oversee each element exactly as it should be.
"Every part of your journey is with me – there is no middle layer, no handover, just a direct, personal collaboration from beginning to end."
For Emma, florals and styling can be compared to the feeling of stepping off the plane on holiday when that first hit of warmth touches your skin: “It’s that same giddy sensation whether you’re a guest or it’s your own day – it sets the tone and gives a glimpse of what’s to come.” (Photo: Kate Godfrey Photo)
What wedding styling services does Duchess Seerra offer?
"It’s a fully integrated design service across floristry, styling, stationery design and decor.
"That could be complete creative direction from concept to installation and take-down, or it could be focused support in a particular area.
"I don’t offer packages – over the 300-plus weddings I’ve been part of, I’ve found that no two are the same."
"For most of my couples, I oversee the entire aesthetic journey, helping to choose colours and styles, giving guidance on quantities and the decor items most weddings need to function.
"That said, not everyone requires the same level of support. Some couples come to me with a clear vision but need help refining and elevating it; others want the confidence of handing over the creative reins entirely."

Real wedding inspiration and future plans
Tell us about a standout wedding that really felt quintessentially Duchess Seerra
"The one at the Signet Library, pictured above, last December. Not for the obvious reason that it was drenched in my favourite colour, but because it was opulent, a fusion of cultures, and there was a speakeasy feel to the wedding breakfast where the guests’ experience was top priority for the couple.
"It was a real joint design journey for us, and the bride emailed the day after to thank me for bringing her vision to life “with so much thoughtfulness, care and creativity”. That’s the feeling I want to bring to every wedding I’m part of."
What’s next on the horizon?
"I’d like Duchess Seerra to grow organically. I’m aiming to set up a studio space this year that’ll allow me to invite couples to come in for a chat and see decor ideas and flowers in person before their wedding.
"I’d also love to do more extravagant decor and some really creative floristry designs in the near future."
