On a rare sunlit day in Glencoe, Maria Elizabeth Designs brought high fashion to the Scottish Highlands in this styled elopement shoot filled with wild florals and romantic details

It’s often said that on a good day, there’s nowhere better to be than the Highlands of Scotland. Case in point: this beautiful and ethereal styled shoot, set against the sun-drenched backdrop of Glencoe.

Organised by Scottish stationer, stylist and storyteller Maria Elizabeth and captured by Natalie Pluck Photography, the shoot brought together a team of British wedding suppliers to produce what Maria calls “a real-life dreamscape” – a blend of landscape, florals and fashion designed to inspire couples planning a luxury Scottish elopement.

The vision combined naturalistic beauty with high-fashion bridal looks, whimsical styling and storytelling details, all wrapped in an earthy, Highland-inspired colour palette of blush, pale yellow, sand, natural greens, earth browns and metallic gold.

Two high-fashion bridal looks for a Highland wedding

“The only thing better than having one beautiful gown is having two,” smiles Maria. Couture designer Cynthia Grafton-Holt created bespoke dresses that felt both unique and complementary, allowing the models to 'dance' with the rugged landscape.

Olivia wore the Brienne gown, a silk tulle bodice with a princess-line skirt, detachable tulle sleeves, a gold laurel crown by Emilia Rae, and a cascading drop veil from Sash + Veil embroidered with delicate floral motifs.

Eve wore the airy Merida ballgown in tulle and organza, complete with a thigh-high split, shoulder bows and a metallic headpiece clasp.
Both gowns moved effortlessly in the Highland breeze – “a call and response,” says Maria – showcasing how elevated bridal fashion can feel at one with nature.

Romantic bridal hair and dewy makeup ideas

Hair stylist Elegant Bridal Hairstyling created soft, romantic looks with plenty of movement. Olivia’s hair was styled into an elegant up-do, while Eve’s was left down for contrast and to nod to old Scottish elopement tales.

Makeup artist Kirsten B. Bridal gave both brides a timeless, 'no makeup' look: dewy skin, rose-gold and champagne tones on the eyes, and nude lips. It’s a versatile choice that works beautifully for outdoor weddings.

Neutral florals and whimsical luxury wedding styling

Florist Feather Grass Florals took a deconstructed, organic approach, creating arrangements that appeared to grow straight from the ground – colourful anemones, roses and ranunculus echoing the wildness of Glencoe.

These blooms mirrored the marbleised sugar-flower cake by Sadie May Cakes, finished with hand-painted calligraphy ribbon from Maria Elizabeth and The Silk Studio.

Maria also designed a hyacinth die-cut menu tied with silk bows to reflect each bouquet, styling a tablescape of long-stemmed candles, billowing silks, and vintage furniture from All Wrapped Up Scotland with tableware by Alba Tableware.

The effect was earthy yet luxurious – proof that “the magic is always in the cohesive details.”

Meaningful details to personalise your elopement

The styling wove in Scottish history and personal storytelling, from hot-foil handmade paper stationery to vintage love letters, books belonging to family, and hand-painted hand-fasting ribbons – a nod to a centuries-old Highland wedding tradition.

“These carefully woven touches against the magnificent backdrop are what made it special,” says Maria. “They’re the details couples will remember long after the day.”

Popular Scottish elopement location

Glencoe is one of the world’s most sought-after elopement destinations — and with its soaring Munros, clear lochs, wild deer and cinematic views, it’s easy to see why.

This shoot took place just off Glen Etive Road, a short drive from venues like The Kingshouse Hotel and Glencoe House.
