If you’re looking for a luxury Scottish wedding venue that blends five-star comfort, breathtaking Clyde estuary views and an indulgent spa experience, Gleddoch Golf & Spa Resort in Langbank deserves a spot on your shortlist.

With its elegant ceremony and reception spaces, newly transformed Imperia Spa, fine dining at Vista restaurant and accommodation perfect for a wedding weekend, this Renfrewshire hotel offers everything couples could wish for in one scenic setting.

Gleddoch Golf & Spa Resort unveils spa renovations

Confession: this wasn’t my first visit to Gleddoch.

Two Christmases ago, I treated my boyfriend Luke to a spa day at the Langbank resort. In the chill of January, we basked in the sauna, enjoyed soothing massages and rounded it off with afternoon tea while the wind whistled across the golf course.

So when I heard Gleddoch had unveiled its multi-million-pound spa renovations, I couldn’t wait to see the Princess Diaries-style transformation for myself.

Come August, the weather seemed just as eager to celebrate our return, offering blue skies and sunshine for a full venue visit experience.

Luxury wedding accommodation in the Royal Suite

After check-in, we made our way to the Royal Suite – one of two honeymoon suites. Spacious and elegant, it has a large bedroom and alcove, a living room with coffee station, and a generous bathroom.

A welcome tray of truffles awaited, but it was the view that captured my heart: rows of white chairs lined the lawn, ready for an outdoor ceremony. I’ve always loved the idea, and on a day like this it looked nothing short of magical.

Planning your wedding day: tastings, canapés and dining

Downstairs, I met sales and events manager Kirsty Mackinnon, whose warmth matched the August sunshine.

She whisked me off on a tour, beginning in the newly refurbished Wildflower Suite – bold, bright and full of personality. We paused for iced coffees as she filled me in on what couples can expect at Gleddoch.

Food, she told me, is always a highlight. “Six months before, you’ll come for a tasting,” she explained.

“You try two starters, two mains, two desserts, plus wines, and give feedback on little tweaks. The canapés are always a talking point – our haggis bonbons are famous, and the mini fish and chips always go down a storm.”

Indoor and outdoor wedding spaces at Gleddoch

The venue’s largest event space, the Garden Room (set for both a ceremony and a reception that day), had been styled by recommended supplier Purple Willow Weddings.

Bow-back chairs and a petal-lined runner added romance to a space already blessed with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Clyde.

“We’ve had some beautiful outdoor weddings on the lawn overlooking the river,” Kirsty said

“But there’s something equally as special in the Garden Room’s ability to bring the outdoors in. It’s an excellent option – especially considering the unpredictability of Scottish summer weather.”

On-site wedding weekend activities

The golf course and driving range prove invaluable, she added. “We often have groomsmen heading out for a round or to hit a few balls on the morning of the wedding – it’s a great way to keep nerves at bay.”

With 75 bedrooms, there’s space for guests to make a stay of it, and Kirsty has even seen couples book the entire resort to create an exclusive-use, private wedding village.

Relax and unwind at the Imperia Spa

With visions of sunlit ceremonies and canapés fresh in my mind, it was time to sample the spa.

The transformation is striking, and far beyond what I’d imagined: black marble walls, a reflective ceiling, golden lighting. Lining the indoor pool are loungers, sensory showers and aroma and salt steam rooms.

Adjoining is the tropical plant-filled Palm Room which contains the indoor sauna. It leads out to the verandah, where a hydrotherapy pool overlooks the Clyde.

As I sank into its warmth, I spotted a fluffle of bunnies darting across the grass and into wildflowers on the hillside.

"Combine that with the pool jets and sweeping views, and it felt like this vantage point perfectly captured Gleddoch at its peak"

An evening of dinner and drinks at Glasgow wedding venue

Dinner at Vista restaurant followed. I opted for haddock and chunky chips (after Kirsty’s mention of those famed mini fish supper canapés, I couldn’t resist).

Luke chose the Gleddoch burger and started with the soup of the day, while I had chicken liver parfait with pear and chilli chutney. Portions were generous, service was prompt, and of course dessert – warm chocolate brownies – was a must.

Usually after two courses I’m a two-spoon gal, insisting Luke shares his, but this time I was determined to see it through on my own.

Not quite ready for bed, we slipped into the Dram for a nightcap. Lit for atmosphere, the bar offers an extensive drinks menu, but we couldn’t resist the playful colours of a Pink Dragon and an Acid Blue 69.

Pre-wedding and post-wedding spa treatments

Morning brought a hearty breakfast – pancakes for me, eggs benedict for him – before our final treat: massages at the Imperia Spa.

Our backs are regularly hunched over a screen, so we were in heaven.

“Bridal parties often book treatments the day before to help them relax,” Kirsty told us. “Or couples will return for a massage after the wedding. It just adds that extra bit of calm and luxury.”

As Luke and I left, shoulders looser and spirits higher, I thought back to our first visit here. Back then, Gleddoch gave us comfort on a cold winter’s day.

This time, it gave us sunshine, spa indulgence and a glimpse of how magical a wedding here could be. We’re not sure how our next visit could possibly top this one, but of course there’s only one way to find out. Until next time!
