Newlywed Lucy Rome has some rather unusual advice for any couple considering marrying at the Redhurst, a boutique hotel in Glasgow’s southside: “Get in that copper bath!” she laughs. “It’s one of the main features of the hotel’s gorgeous Garden House honeymoon suite. We stayed there on the night of our wedding, although I wish we could’ve stayed a week.”

She and husband David had a good laugh with photographer Nicole Parrack as they posed in the bath in their wedding finery.

“We also took advantage of the Garden House’s landscaped gardens for some sunny shots of us with our sunglasses on, and the foliage wall at the entrance to the Grand Ballroom was brilliant for our posed family photos because, would you believe it, it was too sunny outside!” recalls Lucy.

When they started searching for venues, the Glasgow-based couple wanted to stay close to home to make life easy for their two young daughters and their friends and family.

“We visited four other places, some of which were also part of the Manorview group. Ultimately, we realised we didn’t want to spend an astronomical amount of money on our wedding. The Redhurst was affordable and accommodating every step of the way,” says Lucy.

Discover other package-based Scottish wedding venues

“We booked our May date last autumn, despite David trying to talk me out of such a short lead-time. Nothing was a problem for the team at the Redhurst, though; they helped us pull off a wedding for 180 guests in eight months without any stress.”

Their package included welcome drinks, wine, a choice of meals, a white aisle runner, candelabra centrepieces, a DJ and a night in the Garden House.

“There were great menu options for our two young children. And the Redhurst pointed us towards the drinks packages that offered us most bang for our buck. It all represented excellent value for money.

“Brooke was our wedding coordinator in the lead-up and also helped make sure our day ran smoothly. She was fab!”

Even though the hotel takes a package-based approach, there is flexibility, which the couple appreciated. “Music is really important to us, so Colin, the DJ who was part of our package, was happy to chat to us to ensure the playlist was exactly what we wanted. As a result, we were never off the dancefloor!”

Family friend Rachel Christie acted as the celebrant. “It was perfect,” recalls Lucy. “We kept it family-only for the first part of the day, meaning we had 62 guests, with an extra 120 people at night.

“With the blessing of the venue, we brought our ceremony forward to 12.30pm, so that our evening guests could start arriving at 6pm – earlier than the typical wedding timeline. It meant we got longer with our evening guests.”

They also had a ‘photo rush’ at the start of the evening celebrations to ensure they got a photograph with everyone. “David and I took a seat out on the dancefloor and each table came up for a picture while music was playing. Everyone was talking about it afterwards,” remembers Lucy.

The speeches were another highlight for the bride. “David’s speech was perfect, and his best man’s was funny and heartfelt in equal measure. My dad passed away six years ago, but my mum completely surprised me by getting to her feet and saying a few words. It really caught me off guard in the nicest possible way!

“Our wedding was us to a T and we just wish we could do it all over again!” smiles Lucy.
