Charlotte and Alexander travelled from the Isle of Man for their dream wedding day at this blank-canvas venue in Fife on 24th August 2025
Set just outside St Andrews, Falside Mill was the ideal pick for Charlotte and Alexander’s summer wedding weekend – a beautifully restored steading with space to style it their way, standout food, and owners who couldn’t do enough to help.
With 124 guests travelling from the Isle of Man, courtyard drinks, photos at Kingsbarns beach and a relaxed BBQ feast, their day was all heart (and seriously good planning).

A summer wedding at Falside Mill in St Andrews
When your wedding venue comes with amazing food, stunning surroundings and a dog walker, you know you’re in good hands.
That’s what Charlotte and Alexander, the new Mr and Mrs Lewthwaite, discovered when they booked Falside Mill, St Andrews, for their summer wedding.
Eclectic pastel-toned real wedding at Falside Mill
“The owners, David and Alyson, were so welcoming and kind throughout the entire process,” smiles Charlotte.
“Falside truly is a special place with special people.
“Plus, their lovely daughter walked our dog Elie a few times throughout the day. We knew she’d be well looked after!”
Planning a wedding from the Isle of Man
As soon as the couple laid eyes on the unique space, they knew it was the one for them.
“Alexander and I both agreed that we wanted to get married away from our home on the Isle of Man and to extend our celebrations across a whole weekend. Finding Falside Mill ticked every box.
“In the end, we had 124 guests, most of whom had travelled from the Isle of Man in plenty of time before the wedding. The boat can sometimes be unreliable, so they made a real effort to ensure they got there early.”

And, of course, its ever-helpful owners sealed the deal. “David and Alyson were always on the other end of the phone whenever we needed them during the planning.
“Nothing was too much trouble for them to sort out.”
Rustic wedding decor and styling details
Falside Mill is a centuries-old former farm steading that has been beautifully restored in recent years, and its rustic charm was an ideal match for the decor Charlotte and Alexander had in mind.
“We wanted a building that would give us a clean slate for customisation and styling, and here we had scope to decorate as we wished.
“We hired multiple items from Falside, including chairs and barrels.
“Our decor supplier provided a welcome sign and table plan, while our florist, Victoria Bloom, created a table arch and floral arrangements.
“Alexander and I liked the idea of not having a package (although our overall cost did include furniture, bar staff, glass hire, canapés, a three-course meal and the evening buffet) as it gave us free rein to do as we wished.”
A celebrant-led wedding ceremony and outdoor drinks reception
With all the details in place, it was time to walk down the aisle.
“The ceremony was so much better than we could ever have imagined,” smiles Charlotte.
“The moment I walked down the aisle with my dad, and Alexander and I saw one another, was very emotional.
“And our celebrant was incredible – she made it the right balance of modern and traditional with a light-hearted touch. Our favourite part was definitely reading out ‘three things we love about each other’ that we’d previously written in secret.”
Kingsbarns beach wedding photos
After the vows, it was time to raise a glass and let the celebrations begin.
“Our guests had drinks in the courtyard while we had our photographs taken on Kingsbarns beach. In the sunshine it honestly looked like something out of the Caribbean."

“It gave us a special moment together, just the two of us, in the middle of such a big day. We also stopped in a field on the way back from the beach.
“The light there was beautiful, and it made for some really natural, dreamy shots. Rachel, our photographer, just put us completely at ease.”
Next up were heartfelt speeches and an “amazing” dinner consisting of charcuterie and cheese boards for starters, a barbecue as the main, followed by a dessert table loaded with sticky toffee pudding, meringue, strawberries and cream and more.
Top planning tips from the couple
“We loved every second of our day – there’s nothing we’d change about it,” concludes this very contented bride.
“My advice would be to do it your way and plan a day that truly reflects you both.
“Don’t put too much pressure on any one part of it – it’ll all come together. Just enjoy every moment.”
