Olivia and Daryl’s Tuscany wedding at Antico Borgo San Lorenzo was a three-day celebration of sunshine, food and relaxed Italian style

Scottish couple Olivia and Daryl chose a Tuscany destination wedding at Antico Borgo San Lorenzo for their July 2025 celebration, swapping this country's famed weather for guaranteed Italian sunshine.

Their Italian wedding in Tuscany combined a relaxed ceremony, three-day itinerary and authentic food-led experience surrounded by vineyards and idyllic countryside views.

From Glasgow pub to Tuscany wedding

Olivia and Daryl met in a Glasgow pub in April 2021. “We met on a night out… we had our first date soon after – and the rest is history!”

Two years later, Daryl proposed during a birthday trip to Rome.
“It was a complete surprise,” Olivia says. “And the proposal itself was really beautiful and intimate.”

From that point, they set their sights on an Italy destination wedding. “We always knew we wanted to marry abroad,” she explains. “We both adore Italy… the atmosphere, the culture and the cuisine.”

Finding the perfect Tuscany wedding venue

Their search led them to Antico Borgo San Lorenzo, a countryside venue around an hour from Florence.

“We visited in October 2023… and as soon as we arrived, we just knew it was the one,” says Olivia. “It felt so relaxed and authentic – surrounded by vineyards, traditional buildings and gorgeous scenery.”

Wedding planner Laura McCranor played a key role in making it happen. “Hiring Laura was the best decision ever. She made everything easy and enjoyable… and ran the show flawlessly on the day.”

With suppliers split between Scotland and Italy, her support was essential.

“We couldn’t have done it without her.”

A relaxed ceremony in the Tuscan countryside

As the couple are yet to complete their legal ceremony in Scotland, they opted for a non-legal blessing in Tuscany, led by their best friend Angela.

Olivia walked down the aisle with both her parents. “Having them both by my side really kept me calm,” she says. “The ceremony itself wasn’t too long, just heartfelt and relaxed.”

“Daryl says his highlight was seeing me walk down the aisle,” she adds. “For me, it was getting ready with my mum, gran and bridesmaids – I will always treasure that time.”

A food-led Italian wedding experience

Food was central to their Tuscany wedding celebration, with the day designed around shared dining and atmosphere.

Guests enjoyed Aperol spritz, wine and canapés accompanied by the Tuscan Folk Band before sitting down to a multi-course feast.

Homemade pasta, pistachio chicken and baked potatoes were served, followed by a traditional millefoglie wedding cake, assembled live in front of guests.

“It was such a fun spectacle – we wanted dessert to be part of the experience.”

Speeches were delivered between courses, adding to the relaxed, sociable feel. The couple chose not to have a top table, instead sitting among their guests.

“It felt more sociable and relaxed,” says Olivia.

Styling, sunshine and a three-day celebration

The styling complemented the Tuscan setting, with a palette of butter yellow, lemon and olive green softened by white and cream florals.

“Laura helped us refine the vision – she has such an eye for detail.”

The celebrations extended beyond the wedding day itself. Guests arrived for a pizza party the night before, complete with karaoke and flowing wine.

“It was genuinely the best way to start the festivities.”

After the wedding, the couple hosted a pool party and barbecue, before continuing their celebrations in Lucca and Viareggio.

A party to remember

As night fell, Scottish DJ Euan Lawrence took over the dancefloor.

“He was amazing – he had everyone singing and dancing all night. The energy was unreal. Our guests haven’t stopped talking about him!”

Looking back, Olivia’s advice is clear: “Get a wedding planner… Having someone to manage communication, scheduling and suppliers made everything seamless. It let us actually enjoy the experience.”
