Mum of the bride Lynn Stirling shares how she found her perfect look at Frox of Falkirk – choosing a bold fuchsia dress, statement accessories and a modern silhouette for her daughter’s Glasgow wedding

We chat to Lynn Stirling, a mother of the bride who returned to Frox of Falkirk a decade after first shopping there, this time in search of a more considered, modern look for her daughter Becky’s Glasgow wedding.
From months of browsing and second-guessing to a bold fuchsia Fely Campo dress that instantly felt right, the feature explores how expert guidance, openness to unexpected styles and a full styling experience – from hat to heels – helped her feel confident, comfortable and ready for a celebration that was every bit as much a party as it was a wedding.
A second time as mother of the bride – and a fresh approach
When my eldest daughter Lauren got married about 10 years ago, I found my outfit so quickly it felt too good to be true. I went to Frox of Falkirk, tried on one of the first dresses I saw, and loved it.
The staff were brilliant with me, even swapping it for a smaller size later when I’d lost some weight. But afterwards I remember thinking: Did I rush that? Should I have looked around a bit more?
So when my younger daughter Becky told me she and Gareth had set a date to marry on 22nd August 2025 at the Engine Works in Glasgow, I decided I was going to approach things differently.
I adored the outfit I’d worn to Lauren’s wedding, but this time, all these years later, I wanted to really take my time exploring my options.
When too much choice makes outfit shopping harder
I started looking in March, which felt like plenty of time. Becky came with me to every appointment at every boutique. We visited a few places in Falkirk, Glasgow and Edinburgh, trying on all sorts of styles.
At one point I actually wondered if I’d made things harder by looking in too many places. After a few months I started worrying, ‘What if I don’t find anything?’ You forget where you’ve seen certain dresses, and you start second-guessing everything.
"I kept going back to Frox of Falkirk because they’d been so lovely the first time around. Carolyn there was brilliant – really relaxed and never pushy."
I’d already tried on a couple of dresses in the shop that I quite liked, but none of them felt like the one.
With both her daughters marrying in the space of one summer, this mum had to find two very special wedding outfits – here she tells us how
Finding the one: a bold fuchsia mother of the bride look
Then one day in July, Becky and I had been through in Glasgow trying on a few things and I just wasn’t feeling it. On the way home I phoned Frox to see if they could squeeze us in. Carolyn was free, so we popped in.
I asked if I could have a wee look around again and that’s when I spotted a dress I hadn’t tried before – a beautiful fuchsia pink design by Fely Campo.
Pink is a colour I love, although I’d imagined I’d go for something much softer. The dress was also more fitted than I’d planned. I’d been leaning towards looser styles that I hoped would hide a few bumps, but Carolyn suggested I try it anyway.
As soon as I put it on, I knew. Becky looked at me and said straight away, “Mum, that’s it.” And I thought exactly the same. It just felt right.
"It was modern, flattering and a bit different from what I’d imagined myself wearing, but in the best possible way."
The colour worked beautifully with the wedding too. Becky had chosen pale sky-blue dresses for her five bridesmaids – including her sister Lauren as chief bridesmaid – so the fuchsia stood out in a really lovely way.
Styling the full outfit: hat, shoes and finishing touches
Once the dress was decided, Frox were great for helping me complete the entire look. They immediately brought over hats, shoes and bags to try with the dress so I could see everything together.
After spending months looking for the dress itself, I was so grateful as I really didn’t want to start the whole process again elsewhere.
I decided to go for quite a statement hat. I’d tried on a smaller one, but I remember thinking, ‘This is probably the last time I’ll be mother of the bride, so why not go for it?’
Becky’s dad has sadly passed away, so I was giving her away, and the hat – along with a pair of pointed high heels – gave me a bit of extra height alongside her.
For her son’s Italian wedding, Lisa Williams seized the chance to wear something bold, bright and bespoke – and found it in a one-of-a-kind hat made close to home
A Glasgow wedding with true party energy
The wedding morning started early – about 5am (lots of bridesmaids!) – but it actually felt really relaxed and special. Having someone do your hair and makeup, then putting on this outfit you feel amazing in… it just gives you such confidence.
The day itself was incredible. Becky and Gareth had lived in Ibiza for a while and wanted the wedding to feel like a proper party, and it absolutely did.
Everyone was up dancing and singing from early on – at one point I even sang my karaoke favourite, ‘Blanket on the Ground’ by Billie Jo Spears, microphone and all!
Looking back, my biggest piece of advice for other mums would be to try on styles and colours that you wouldn’t normally pick – I’m so glad I did.
Expert insight: how Frox of Falkirk finds the right fit
“At Frox of Falkirk, we are extensively trained by owner Fiona to understand body shape, proportion, skin tone and colouring, which ensures that our recommendations are thoughtfully considered,” says style consultant Carolyn Russell.
“This technical knowledge is essential, but sometimes you meet someone and instinctively know they can carry something a little more playful.
"Lynn had that spark: she was great fun and full of personality, and it was clear we could push the boundaries slightly while keeping the overall look elegant and appropriate for the occasion."
“After exploring a range of silhouettes and tones, we found the perfect balance in the Fely Campo dress.
"The look was completed with a beautifully crafted Snoxell & Gwyther headpiece, along with coordinating shoes and a bag from Frox.”
