With over 900 years of history, Newbattle Abbey has it all: medieval architecture, period interiors, and landscaped grounds, creating a venue that’s rich in character.
Couples are supported by an experienced wedding team, with packages tailored to suit different styles of celebration. Ceremonies can take place in the Chapel or the atmospheric Crypt, followed by receptions in a choice of heritage rooms.
Outside, woodland walks and gardens provide a natural setting for photography, adding another layer to the overall experience.

About Newbattle Abbey
Dating back to the 12th century, Newbattle Abbey began as a Cistercian monastery and has played a role in Scotland’s history for centuries. It is believed to be linked to the drafting of the Declaration of Arbroath and has welcomed notable historical figures over time.
Original features remain throughout the building, including the Mary Queen of Scots Birthing Font in the Chapel, adding further historical interest to the venue.
Today, the Abbey operates as an educational institution while also hosting weddings and events, combining its historic setting with a practical, well-supported approach to celebrations.
