Lisa Main and Laura Wardrop

11th November 2016

Venue | Prestonfield and Marlin’s Wynd, both Edinburgh
Photography | Tandem Photo

“We found the venue before we did anything else. We had ideas for things we wanted for our wedding but the venue was the most important decision for us. We wanted our friends and family to have a really special day too. We chose Prestonfield because the house is set in stunning grounds next to Arthur’s Seat and gives the feeling you’re out in the country, rather than the middle of the city.

We kept our wedding small during the day, with 30 of our closest family, but had 90 at an evening party at Marlin’s Wynd. We were really keen to have a relaxed atmosphere during both celebrations, and food was really important.

Our gorgeous pug Douglas joined us for the ceremony and had a personalised buttonhole to go on his tartan harness. He was an absolute star!

We got our dresses separately from different designers who were both fantastic! Lisa’s dress was by Flossy and Dossy and Laura’s dress was made by Dragonfly Dress Design. They were both fantastic and actually contacted each other to ensure our dresses looked good together.

We couldn’t recommend Audrey at Tandem Photo highly enough. Our day would not have been the same without her – it was like having a fifth bridesmaid on the day. She made all our guests feel relaxed whilst getting some stunning natural shots.

We personalised as many elements of our day as possible. We prioritised making our guests feel special and making an effort with little touches. We made our own favours using guests’ favourite drinks and created our own welcome boards. We also incorporated the symbol and colours of St Columba’s Hospice (a charity very close to our hearts) in the table decorations and favours.”

Top tip: “Make sure you get some time just the two of you after the ceremony, even just 10 minutes to yourselves to have a celebratory glass of fizz together.”
