We love a themed hen do, and a Mean Girls theme is so fetch! So look out something pink, grab your Burn Book and get planning with these 10 ideas

October 3rd may be the official Mean Girls Day, but with the remake of the film coming out on 17th January, everyone’s talking about the cult classic film again.

If you’ve got a hen do to plan, why not lean into the theme? There are plenty of ways to have a more subtle nod to the film, or to go all out. For inspiration, experience booking service Fizzbox has shared ten ways to get the party started. Get in loser, we’re having a hen do!

You can sit with us, to enjoy a stylish boozy brunch. DIY your own at home, head out to your favourite spot, or see the fabulous brunch on offer from Fizzbox in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Karaoke

A hen do classic, get the girls together to belt out some of your favourite songs. Include plenty of early noughties tracks to keep on theme and evoke some nostalgia, as well some of your all-time-faves.

For some inspiration, the Mean Girls soundtrack is full of fun tracks, like ‘Milkshake’ by Kelis, ‘God is a DJ’ by Pink and ‘Pass That Dutch’ by Missy Elliot.

Dance Class

If you want to be crowned Spring Fling Queen, you’ll need to know how to dance. Performing a choreographed routine with your besties is a lot of fun, and it’s always good to have up your sleeve for nights out.

Mean Girls did of course give us the iconic ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ routine, and it’s easy enough to learn from watching the scene a few times. Or book into a dance class specifically made for hen parties to learn an entirely new routine.

Mean Girls Quiz

Get into ‘mathlete’ mode and put your Mean Girls knowledge to the test. When it comes to quiz questions about the film, the limit does not exist!

There are so many areas to cover, from who said which quote, to outfit details and general knowledge about the characters.

Crown the winner with a tiara, and for a tie split the tiara into pieces just like Cady did…

Mean Girls Drinking Game

How many times have you watched Mean Girls? Not enough is the answer. If your hen do includes a cosy night in, it’s the perfect excuse to put the film on and quote it as you go.

Why not have some fun with it and turn it into a drinking game? Make up as many rules as you like, and include things like a drink for every mention of ‘Plastics’ or Regina George’s full name, or in celebration as Janice crosses things off of her list.

Just remember to drink responsibly. You don’t want to repeat Cady’s infamous word vomit or worse!

Cinema Trip

Of course the original 2004 film was amazing, but we must admit we’re curious about the remake. The new version will be pretty different as it is a musical, with dance numbers, references to the original film and a few familiar faces making a return.

The new film hits cinemas on 17th January 2024, so ditch the Kalteen bars, grab the popcorn and make a day of it with your hens.

Fancy Dress Party

Early 2000s fashion is officially back in, with wide-leg low-rise jeans, rhinestones and mini handbags having a resurgence. Luckily this works perfectly with the Mean Girls dress code, with the addition of wearing pink on Wednesdays, of course.

Create your own Plastics approved outfit or channel your inner Regina, Cady, Gretchen, Karen, or even the legendary Mrs George!

For a party in the house, add some Mean Girls themed decor and accessories to complete your photos, or wear your outfits out to your hen do event.

A search of Pinterest showed us there are so many creative ideas to bring the theme to life! Here are some of our favourite Mean Girls outfit and decor ideas. They’re, like, really pretty!

Mean Girls cocktails

Pretty drinks are a big part of hen parties, and these aren’t regular cocktails, these are cool cocktails.

Head out to your favourite bar that serves pink drinks, or stay home and DIY some delicious tipples. And of course, have fun naming your creations based on the film. Something like ‘Fetch Fizz’ or ‘You Can’t Sip With Us!’ will keep the drinks table on brand.

DIY Burn Book scrapbook

Make this at the time as a hen do activity or gift it to the bride-to-be at the party. Unlike the film, this is a nice Burn Book that you can fill with photos, memories, a sweet message from each hen and inside jokes to bring a smile to her face.

Whatever memories or well wishes you have for the bride-to be, let it out honey, put it in the book!

Themed photobooth

Of course if you’ve got all the girls together and you’re all dressed up, you’re going to want to capture the moment. With a bit of DIY-ing, you can create a perfect pink backdrop and buy or make some props with a nod to the film (like the aforementioned Burn Book).

If you have an Instax or Polaroid camera, you can use the photos as decor, like when Regina printed out pages from the Burn Book and stuck them around the school, or stick them into your scrapbook Burn Book to remember the day!
