Maureen Westwater Williams and Kyle Maxwell Williams said ‘I do’ at Schloss Roxburghe’s 300-acre estate in the Borders on 2nd August 2025
When Maureen and Max travelled from New England to Scotland for their destination wedding at Schloss Roxburghe, they knew they wanted a celebration that felt elegant, relaxed and true to the setting.
Their celebrations combined an outdoor ceremony, marquee reception and timeless styling at the luxury castle hotel, with more than 100 guests making the journey from the United States to celebrate alongside them.

When Maureen and Kyle – known as Max – began searching for their dream wedding venue, they quickly realised they didn’t need dozens of options. One visit to Schloss Roxburghe in the Scottish Borders was enough to seal the deal.
“We shortlisted just a handful of venues, but once we toured Schloss Roxburghe, we both knew it was the one for us.
“My family is originally from Fife,” says Maureen, “so the country already held a special place in our hearts. Max is an avid golfer too, so Scotland quickly became our top choice.”

It could have felt overwhelming at times, but the couple say working with local suppliers and an experienced wedding planner made the process seamless.

“The task of marrying so far from home could have been daunting, but we got lucky with our wedding planner, Emma Jordan,” explains the bride.
“Using local suppliers was really important to us and she helped us put together the perfect team.”
Around 100 guests travelled from across America to celebrate with the couple during their Scottish wedding weekend.

Schloss Roxburghe’s on-site cottages allowed friends and family to stay together throughout the celebrations, while a relaxed garden party the evening before helped kick everything off.
A timeless outdoor wedding ceremony in the Scottish Borders
The couple chose a minimal and timeless wedding aesthetic that complemented the historic castle venue rather than competing with it.
“The charm and character of Schloss Roxburghe really speaks for itself.
“We kept things simple with greenery, woven pendant lights in the marquee, ribbons tied to the ceremony chairs and white hydrangeas displayed in baskets.”
Their outdoor wedding ceremony took place in the grounds of the estate, with seven bridesmaids and seven groomsmen standing beside them.
“My uncle officiated the ceremony, Max’s great-uncle shared marriage advice collected from our families, and we read vows we’d written to one another,” Maureen recalls.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed champagne and canapés accompanied by a live string quartet before moving into the marquee for dinner and dancing.

The couple opted for Schloss Roxburghe’s Tweed wedding package, which included a wedding coordinator, food and drink, accommodation and exclusive guest rates.
“Serving incredible food and drinks was really important to us,” says Maureen. “Both of our dads love to cook, and Max’s dad is a professional chef, so the menu mattered!”
Guests enjoyed a three-course meal featuring dishes including smoked salmon, chicken supreme and sea trout, before choosing from desserts including cheesecake, chocolate cake and vanilla tart.

The evening reception brought a completely different atmosphere.
“The reception was so much fun,” Maureen smiles. “The energy never dipped and the dancefloor was packed all night.”
Why Schloss Roxburghe worked perfectly for a destination wedding in Scotland
For couples planning a luxury destination wedding in Scotland, Maureen says Schloss Roxburghe offers far more than just a beautiful venue.
“If I could give any advice, it would be to take full advantage of everything here.
“There’s golf, fishing, shooting, an incredible spa and so much more. It truly feels like an oasis.”
