Swapping an Ibiza wedding for The Gailes in Ayrshire
Sometimes wedding plans change for the better. For Ashlyn and Ryan, an overseas celebration initially seemed ideal, but they soon realised having their loved ones there was more important.
“When Ryan proposed, we decided to book an Ibiza wedding for June 2027,” smiles bride Ashlyn. “As time went on, though, we realised that what mattered most was being surrounded by friends and family.”
The couple began searching for an Ayrshire wedding venue and discovered The Gailes Hotel & Spa in Irvine. Its modern interiors, flexible wedding spaces and on-site accommodation ticked their boxes.
“We were keen to book somewhere with plenty of accommodation for any of our guests who wanted to stay the night,” says Ashlyn. “Good local suppliers were also something I took into consideration when planning the wedding as I knew they would likely have worked at the venue before and would know the layout and staff.”
The hotel's 42 bedrooms and all-day wedding package, including a four-course meal, drinks and accommodation for the newlyweds, made it an appealing choice.
Black-and-white wedding styling with an Ibiza twist
Ashlyn and Ryan opted for a classic black-and-white colour scheme, adding bows and candles alongside disco balls that nodded to their original Ibiza plans.
“The hotel has smart modern decor and would suit so many different colour schemes – we were aiming for elegant and timeless so went for a black-and-white theme with bows and candles. We added disco balls too, to give an Ibiza feel to the day.”
The couple also appreciated the flexibility offered by the venue's wedding team, particularly when it came to incorporating their own ideas.
“The staff (in particular Jamie and Amber) were really organised, which made everything run so smoothly on the day – and no question we asked was ever a silly one. In fact, all through the planning process, there was nothing we suggested that wasn’t accommodated, even when we wanted things like outdoor games.”
A personal wedding ceremony in The Gailes' rooftop conservatory
The couple married in the light-filled rooftop conservatory, with Ashlyn's dad accompanying her down the aisle. Their celebrant, Alex Paton from Fuze Ceremonies, made sure the proceedings reflected their personalities.
“It was fantastic. My dad walked me down the aisle, and our celebrant made sure there were lots of laughs – it really suited our personalities. There were so many standout moments, but one of our favourites was when my daughter Aura and Ryan’s daughter Mollie joined us for a family acceptance vow.”
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed live music and lawn games that Ashlyn had hand-painted just days earlier. Meanwhile, the newlyweds explored the venue with their photographers.
“The rooftop conservatory and the outdoor pavilion with the swing and jetty were our favourite spots.”
An Ibiza-inspired wedding reception in the Lagavulin Suite
Following dinner and heartfelt speeches, the celebrations moved to The Gailes' Lagavulin Suite, where the couple's original destination wedding inspiration came into its own.
“We’d booked ‘the ultimate Ibiza experience’ through Hireaband and at no point that evening was the dancefloor empty,” smiles the bride.
“Everyone was jumping around with glowsticks and having a great time, and we also had arcade machines to keep the kids occupied if they needed a break from dancing.
“The highlight of the day was the two of us walking onto the dancefloor and being announced as Mr and Mrs – it’s something we’ll never forget.”
Although their plans had changed considerably since their engagement, Ashlyn and Ryan couldn't have been happier with the decision to celebrate in Scotland.
“Ryan and I feel so lucky to have had everyone we love there on our wedding day.”
