Emma and Jack, now Mr and Mrs Trevorrow-Watts, tied the knot on 30th August 2025 at Wed in a Shed in the company of 70 guests

Emma and Jack chose a blank-canvas barn wedding venue for their relaxed Scottish celebration, tying the knot at Wed in a Shed near Auchterarder in Perthshire.

A blank canvas barn wedding venue in Perthshire

A blank-canvas barn-style venue was top of the list for Emma and Jack when they began searching for places to marry. It wasn’t long before they found Wed in a Shed, an atmospheric converted barn near Auchterarder.

“Jack and I wanted somewhere we could really put our own stamp on the day. From the moment we visited, we felt cared for and supported,” says the bride.

“Plus, having the option to have the ceremony outdoors was important to us.

"The grounds here added a stunning natural backdrop.”

Planning a DIY barn wedding at Wed in a Shed

Once they booked Wed in a Shed for their 70 guests, the couple, who met at university, could begin to organise decor and work out colour schemes to bring their vision to life.

“The venue provided so many useful items, including tables, chairs, sofas and a gazebo, which gave us a great foundation to work with,” says Emma.

“We then added our own touches – we brought in a mix of items we’d collected over time, hired additional trestle tables and worked with our florist on arrangements and table decor.

“We were also able to choose our own caterers and hire in a bar service, which meant we could tailor everything to suit our tastes, our guests and, importantly, our budget.”

Outdoor wedding ceremony by the lake

When their August date finally arrived, the couple couldn’t wait to become husband and wife.

“Our outdoor ceremony by the lake was even better than we could have imagined."

“Our celebrant was wonderful and really put us at ease by looking after every detail. We were hoping the rain would hold off and it did. We had a back-up plan if the weather turned, but thankfully we didn’t need it.”

A favourite moment for the bride and groom was having Sully, their 10-month-old puppy, as their ring-bearer.

“He looked absolutely dashing in his bow-tie, and we attached our rings to his collar in a pouch that read ‘ring security’.”

Drinks, photos and garden games after the ceremony

After tying the knot, Emma and Jack mingled with guests at the drinks reception before disappearing for photos.

“While we were away having our pictures taken (including some on the bouncy castle, of course!), our guests could enjoy the garden, relax on the hay bales, and help themselves to drinks and canapés.

“We’d made a playlist for the reception with all our favourite songs.

"Music is a big part of our story, so this was really important to us.”

Relaxed barn wedding catering with pizza and gelato

Dinner was a relaxed buffet in the barn (with the couple’s favourites, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza and gelato).

After the cake was cut (a special shout-out to the bride’s aunt who made it – and even included a cute figurine of Sully), it was time to really get the party started.

Ceilidh dancing and evening celebrations in a converted barn

“We had a ceilidh band, which was an absolute blast,” says the bride. “Many of our guests had never experienced one before and were hilariously trying to work out the dances. It created such a fun, lively atmosphere!”

One person who deserves a special mention from their big day is Wed in a Shed’s owner, Penny.

“Our wedding day flowed beautifully – this was down to both our careful planning and Penny’s guidance,” says Emma.

“Everything felt relaxed and effortless and the staff were always on hand to assist when we needed them. Nothing was ever a bother to them.

“Honestly, in the lead-up, Jack and I were so nervous, as we wanted everything to go perfectly. But, on the day, we were able to let go and just enjoy ourselves.

“From the moment we said ‘I do’ to the last dance, everything went exactly as we’d hoped.

“It really allowed us to soak up every moment with our friends and family.”
