Looking for somewhere beautifully unique to host your big day? Say “I Do” in this fascinating location that provides a truly memorable day of celebrations for all.

The Lady Victoria Colliery, home of the National Mining Museum Scotland, was opened in 1895 as Scotland’s first super-pit. Having ceased production in 1981, it now serves as an example of one of the most well-preserved Victorian collieries in Europe.  The museum, now a 5 star visitor attraction, tells the story of Scotland’s coal industry and boasts a nationally recognised collection. These rustic industrial buildings provide a unique and memorable location for your wedding.

A quirky venue

Have your humanist, civil or religious ceremony against the backdrop of the iconic Beam Engine in the Power House or, if the unpredictable Scottish weather permits, outside in front of the red brick arches and vintage locomotives. A separate room is provided for your drinks reception, with an option to enjoy the sunshine outside if the weather allows it. During your drinks reception, short, guided tours of the colliery with an ex-miner guide are available, giving your guests an insight into what life was like for the miners and their families – a real wow factor for your special day!

As part of your package, banquet chairs and tables are provided and can be used as they are, however, you can also hire chair covers and sashes to tie in with your theme for an added touch of glamour. Alternatively, wooden tables and chairs are available for hire to create a more rustic atmosphere - tying in perfectly with the earthy, natural interior of the venue.

Natural and rustic atmosphere

The Victorian architecture and urban style of the venue provides the perfect backdrop for captivating images with an industrial edge. National Mining Museum is truly a contemporary photographers dream and your wedding images are guaranteed to be absolutely stunning.

For a unique and interesting wedding venue that is rich in history and full of character, consider the incredible National Mining Museum Scotland and watch your guests jaws drop as you say “I Do”.
