Eloping in Scotland should be seamless, personal and stress-free – and that’s where Sarah Tonnar from Swoon Elopements comes in.
The “detail-obsessed” creative offers bespoke elopement planning that allows couples to create the day they’ve always dreamed of.
“Instead of focusing on the traditional big-budget wedding, many couples are instead choosing to invest in unique experiences, whether that’s a dream location, a personal touch to their outfits, or the perfect vendor team to bring their vision to life,” she tells us.
“It’s all about crafting an experience that’s non-traditional, but still meaningful to them.”
Thinking of eloping in Scotland? Sarah shares how Swoon Elopements can help you plan the perfect day.
How Swoon Elopements came to life
I’ve always been inspired by the wedding industry, and I really love celebrations that break the rules and are truly focused on the couple.
I wanted to be a helping hand for people who aren’t sure where to start, and to design elopements that are stylish, crafted with just as much care and creativity as a bigger wedding.
Why choose to elope in Scotland?
It’s hard to narrow it down. But the idea of freedom, intimacy and the flexibility to do things your way – that’s the beauty of it, if you ask me.
There is no pressure to perform or please anyone else, and there’s also no guest list to wrangle. Eloping gives couples space to be present and celebrate in a way that feels right for them.
Plus, doing it in Scotland? Well, you’re surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, whether you’re having a chic city elopement in Edinburgh or heading to a wild, remote spot where you’ll feel you’re the only two people in the world.
What better way to start your marriage than with the adventure of a lifetime?

Are you considering a Scottish elopement?
Go with your gut. If you’re considering eloping but feel under pressure to have a big wedding instead, don’t ignore that instinct.
If your heart isn’t in it, it’s not right for you. Think about how you like to celebrate, what you want for your future, and how you see yourselves getting married.
If that looks like the two of you (or just a few of your favourite people), then do it.

What’s included in a Swoon Elopements package?
I am a firm believer that just because you are eloping, it doesn’t mean you don’t deserve the luxury of a planner.
"I currently only offer a bespoke full-planning package for couples (and up to ten guests) who are looking to elope in Scotland. I help make the entire process effortless, exciting and completely tailored to you."
From the moment you book me, I want to know all about you and what your dream elopement experience looks like.
I will then handle everything – sourcing the location or venue, coordinating any vendors, managing the budget and handling the logistics.
Will an elopement wedding planner help with travel arrangements?
It's worth checking with each individual wedding planner.
While I don’t handle flights or car hire, I can help you book accommodation and activities, make special dinner reservations, or even help you with mini-moon planning.

“Eloping gives you the freedom to create a day that’s truly yours in a location (Glencoe, for example) that’s close to your heart,” says Sarah (Photo: The Future Before Photography)

Location, location, location. The right spot sets the whole vibe and experience for your day.

Elopements are not a second-best option for couples who can't have a big wedding
You’re not just eloping. Elopements aren’t a second-best option, a backup plan, or something couples do to save money.
They’re a beautiful, intentional way for couples to get married in their own right.
You get to include what matters to you (and skip everything that doesn’t), spending your budget on what you truly value.
What’s next for Swoon Elopements?
I’m still fairly new to the industry but my vision is big when it comes to people celebrating in a way that feels meaningful, beautiful and them.
I’d like to keep growing within this amazing community. Plus, Skye is firmly on the elopement planning bucket-list!
